Reading Goals 2016

source
This year I want to make it a point to read more.
I used to read a couple books a week, easy! But then I had a kids, a busy 9-5 job and a hobby that kind of took up all my free time.

I recently finished reading Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson (a.k.a The Bloggess) and it was amazing! Having a partner who battles depression, bipolar and anxiety issues, this "funny book about horrible things" was something I needed to read and I'm happy I did! I laughed out loud more that I ever had while reading a book! Inspiring and hilarious!

However... I started it in November and only finished it this month. My goal for 2016 is to read at least 2 books per month. I stumbled across this reading challenge on Modern Mrs. Darcy that I would like to use as a incentive to be more active with my reading:

I've started reading Queen of Zombie Hearts by Gena Showalter... the third book in the White Rabbit Chronicles. This will be my "meaning to read" book that I can check off the challenge above. I enjoyed the first 2 books and I'm excited to see how this one plays out.

So, with both my goal to read 2 books a month and a reading challenge to keep me going, I think I'm off to a great start!

Some other books I currently own and hope to get to soon are:
Insurgent ("a book you previously abandoned")
The Winter Garden ("a book recommended to you by your local librarian")

These are the ones I can see on my bookshelp from where I'm sitting... I have at least a dozen more.. so who knows which one I'll grab next!

If you have any suggestions, leave them in the comments!

  1. Perks is a wonderful book! I am hoping to read 45 books this year and I do my typical series challenge, abc challenge, and travel gnome challenge too :)

  2. I love the reading challenge list you shared--I try to fit in about 25 books a year too, which is easier said than done. Thank goodness for my kindle so I can read after everyone else has gone to bed. ;) I recently finished Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson and loved the new perspective of Neverland and Peter Pan. I'm looking forward to reading some of the books you are too. :)

  3. I just finished Furiously Happy too! I love Jenny Lawson - I read her first book, Let's Pretend This Never Happened, 2 summers ago and literally laughed out loud while reading it. I equally enjoyed Furiously Happy. My goal for the year is to read 20 books. Last year I only got to 15, so we'll see. I'm already down 2 and it's still January, so I'm thinking it might actually happen this year. ;)

  4. Would you recommend Furiously Happy to someone who suffers from anxiety?

    1. Yes... I don't suffer from it but my husband does. He's not a big reader but I did read a few exerpts of it to him and he liked it.
