Passion For Fashion #42 : Loafers :

I bought these awesome Dollhouse flats (via ModCloth) in the Fall and sort of forgot about them once the snow started falling.  I got them for a steal during a sale event, and decided they were the perfect way to "finish" this outfit.  The outfit itself is repetitive... I wear the dress, tights & sweater all the time.  Just never together.  I kind of like the way the colors play off each other... not quite "monochromatic" but close.

I'm so tired of winter.  And so jealous of everyone that doesn't have to worry about snow when taking their outfit pictures!  It was FREEZING when we took these pics!! Because I didn't want to bother with the tripod, Ruby came out with me and snapped a few shots in about 30 seconds.  She put together an outfit she called her "cool photographer look." She nailed it.

I can't believe how tired I look in these photos... yikes.  Sorry!  It's been hard week, friends, and all I will ever say here is that we all have to work on building people UP instead of tearing them DOWN.

What I Read on Vacation

Since my vacation is probably one of the most exciting things to happen to me recently, and I've already updated you a little on the whole trip & wedding I photographed while I was there... I thought I'd let you in on the book I read while I was there!

Sharp Objects was Gillian Flynn's debut novel... I've read all 3 of her books, after reading and becoming a big fan of Gone Girl.  Which is still, by far, my favorite.

Like her other 2 books, they are quick "dark" reads.  Psychological thrillers that definitely have you going back and forth on who did what to who and when.

Gripping & definitely more than just a little creepy, Sharp Objects follows reporter Camille Preaker and the return to her hometown to investigate the disappearance/murder of 2 young girls.  Camille hadn't been back in 8 years and had recently completed a stay at a psychiatric hospital.  The girl is gorgeous, but she's gone problems.  The story also follows the strained relationship with her mother, and a new found relationship with her much younger half-sister.

It was the perfect book to read on the beach!  Because is was a short book (about 200 pages on my Kobo), it wasn't daunting and I easily got through several chapters each afternoon between sipping my Pina Coladas and frolicking in the waves!

Are you a fan of Gillian Flynn's?

also, there's still time to head over to My So Called Chaos and vote for me for the "Marvelous Mommy" award! Thanks again to everyone who has voted!!

I'm still a bit shocked this beautiful couple chose ME to come with them... that they trusted me to capture their special days means soooooo much to me!

Here are a few sneak peeks from the big day!

I hope you've enjoyed my little look back at my trip!! It was such an amazing time... can't wait to go back someday!

Punta Cana : part 3 : OFF THE RESORT

Catch up with my style post & part 1 & part 2!

We knew we wanted to take part in at least one excursion while we were in Punta Cana.  We decided on a half day safari type excursion. A) because there were itty bitty monkeys involved and B) because we would have an opportunity to see a typical village on our travels and visit a local home/ coffee & cocoa plantation.

After the most bumpy & wet ride ever (it was the only day it really rained while we were there), we finally arrived at Monkeyland.  There we were able to enjoy the little squirrel monkeys in a natural environment...and the landscape was breathtaking.

The monkeys were soooo friendly! Playing in the trees and bouncing from person to person to nibble at the treats we had for them (fresh fruit).  They are trained & cared for by a wonderful couple (who happened to be Canadian) with years & years of experience.

I was sad the kids weren't with me because they would have had a hoot!

After Monkeyland we travelled to a quaint & typical home to see how the people there live.  The houses are small, but functional & adorable.  The people are happy, everyone I saw, no matter how "poor" they may seem to us are rich in personality & have a wonderful aura about them.  The home we visited was that of a farmer named Mary... her plantation was amazing and I was able to bring home all sorts of goodies... vanilla, coffee and cinnamon to name just a few!

While we were there, we were able to sample fresh coffee, cocoa and their famous "Mama Juana."  The best was the fresh fruit platter we had just before leaving there... so good!

Everywhere we looked there were families on scooters... sometimes 3 or 4 at a time.
I'm glad we had the opportunity to step away from the comforts of the hotel to see a bit of what "real life" is there.

Tomorrow, I'll share a few sneak peeks from the wedding I photographed there!

Punta Cana : part 2 :

Did you check out yesterday's recap of my recent trip to Punta Cana?

I have to admit... relaxing is... hard.
I mean, I don't know about you... but it just doesn't happen very often in "real life."  With a full-time job, 2 kids, the photography on the side, blogging, housework, etc... there isn't really time to just do nothing.

But I got pretty good at it!  *wink*
We would get up around 8:00, quietly get ready for the day (usually consisting of a quick shower & deciding on which swimsuit to wear that day), have breakfast and then make our way to the beach.  Most days we'd spend about 3-4 hrs sunning, playing in the surf, reading, listening to the waves & the funny conversations of other vacationers nearby.  When we started to get hungry, we'd grab lunch and then either head back to the room for a bit, or explore more of the resort (ie. grab a few more drinks).  Another quick shower, and we'd be ready for dinner.

After dinner, there was always something to do.  A show, karaoke, Superbowl party, beach BBQ party, etc.  Not for a lack of entertainment, the Majestic really knows how to treat their guests!

Did you check out my post on my vacation style?

Tomorrow I'll share pics & talk about the excursion we took off the resort! It involves coffee AND squirrel monkeys!

Punta Cana : part 1 :

On a VERY cold morning just a few weeks ago, I headed south for my very first all-inclusive resort vacation.
I was invited to photograph a friend's wedding and couldn't pass up the opportunity.
My sister tagged along and we had the.best.time.ever.

We stayed at the Majestic Colonial in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.  The resort was amazing!!
The rooms were comfortable and stylish, and only steps away from the pool, beach, shops, bars & awesome restaurants.  I could go on & on about the food... I was so worried I wouldn't like anything or get sick.  Not having much travel experience, I didn't know what to expect!

Our favorite place to eat was the Supreme Buffet.  We could have eaten there every single day, for every single meal and not had the same thing twice.  We pretty much did eat there most of the time... and everything was delicious.  We ate at the Mexican restaurant twice and also took advantage of the buffet style BBQ bar near the beach!
