Pastels for Spring... and Winter!

I'm off to sunny Punta Cana tomorrow!
I'm definitely very excited and still a tad nervous... I'm not much of a traveler, and I've never stayed at an all-inclusive resort, so I'm anxious to experience this type of adventure for the first time!

A couple weeks ago I shared this post over at White Lights on Wednesdays... To say I'm "over Winter" is an understatement... BUT after Winter comes Spring!  And with Spring comes new color & pattern trends that I'm really excited about!!

As much as I love a bright, eye-catching color... I'm happy to see pastels are making a comeback!

The best part is you don't even need to wait until Spring to start rockin' these softer hues!!
Pair your light pinks, blues & purples with dark brown accessories like boots or bags to provide a pretty & season-appropriate look!  I guarantee your style will be a breath of fresh air!Winter Pastels
The blog will be quiet while I'm gone, but I hope you'll stick around to hear all about my vacation when I get back!

Five "Fashion Blogs" You Should Be Following

When it comes to fashion blogs, we all know there are some amazing ones out there... But the truth is, it can be nearly impossible to keep up with them.  The brands they wear, the impeccable makeup, the perfect photography & location shoots... it's a bit overwhelming!

I'm naturally drawn to a more organic & natural feeling fashion blog.  NOT that these women don't look like could have stepped right out of a fashion magazine (they're gorgeous!!), I just relate to them & their genuine style on a more real level.  A lot of their styles are looks that I'm confident that I could pull off... on my budget too!  AND they're not just about fashion, their blogs are completely enjoyable & inspiring as they share bits & pieces of their lives too!

Without further ado, here are 5 fabulous fashion bloggers I think you MUST know about!

Donna of Polkaot Pink.
She does dresses just.the.right.way.  Her style is cute & ultra-feminine... and I'm a bit obsessed with her hair.

Inge of This Ever Evolving Life is the perfect example of "less is more." She takes a simple,
classic look and rocks it.  She always looks extremely well put together!

Gentri of Gentri Lee needs no introduction, really.  I love that her style is so uniquely her... classic & just a teeny bit quirky at the same time.  Her fashion posts always leave me wishing I could raid her closet!

Paulette of Rorschach, Coffee, and 1963 has a fabulous vintage flare about her.  She also effortless exudes confidence.  Such a beauty!

Last but not least is Katie of Loverly She... I first fell in love with her sweet & sassy style when she was sporting the cutest baby bump ever!! She has since welcomed a beautiful baby boy and her style continues to inspire me!

Be sure to stop by their blogs and see for yourselves why I think they rock!

Confessions of a Shoe Addict

My name is Lena and I'm a shoe addict.
I know it.

I recently purchased two new shoe racks.
My son thought I was crazy for putting both in the cart... "But Mommy, it says it fits 40 pairs of shoes, I think you only need one." Um... no, silly child.  I was actually a bit nervous that 2 might not be enough.

I don't really think my love for shoes is a problem.
I think of it as more of a collection, really.
I don't own a ton of jewelry, opting to accessorize my outfits with my choice of shoe.  I have them in all sorts of colors, patterns & styles.  Wedges, flats & heels.... ankle, mid-calf, knee-high and EVEN a thigh-high pair of boots! A little bit of everything.  From Converse to stilettos, there's a perfect shoe for pretty much any outfit I can put together.

a cute pair of folksy flats from Modcloth... great way to add a feminie touch to any outfit!

And the best part is I've paid less than $20 a pair on average... I'm a sucker for a good sale.  And if I see a cute shoe with a pretty little price tag, I'm hard pressed NOT to take advantage of a good deal.
My favorite place to shop for shoes is Payless, and I'd guess that at least 70% of my collection is from that
store.  With affordable prices, sales & sales on sales (BOGO anyone?), I can easily walk out of there with 2 or more pair of shoes for $20-$25.

If I'm being honest, I don't know how some people can only own a couple pairs.  As much as I love shoes, I have yet to come across a pair that would match with everything...

these TOMS wedges in camel go with *almost* everything!
a fun pair of wedges are a must-have for Summer

And sometimes I buy shoes that aren't even that comfortable.  These are "special occasion" shoes... or shoes I know I won't actually have to wear for long.  It's okay to have a few of these... It's okay to suffer a little for fashion.  As long as your feet aren't bleeding or blistering by the end of the day or night.  By uncomfortable, I don't mean unwearable... just only wearable for a few hours max. *wink*

these were a steal on Ebay... they have lightnight bolts on them.  I couldn't resist!  **always so weird to look at old photos of my feet without tattoos!**
So, who's with me?
Anyone need to admit to their own little shoe "addiction"... no judging here!

Passion For Fashion #36 : Casual Friday :

Gap Jean, Top & Cardigan via Joe Fresh, TOMS wedges, Betsey Johnson Earrings via Ebay

Pretty typical look for me on a Friday.  Comfy pair of jeans, peplum tee and a cardigan.  I'm wearing my favorite wedges and an adorable pair of Betsey Johnson skull earrings!

I'm happy to report that I'm feeling much better & I really hope all the sickness has left our house for the year!  The battery in my camera remote is dead, so I'm left to wait until someone is willing to take my photo. That, and the fact that it's usually dark out by the time I get home make for some pretty UNinteresting style posts... but they can only get better from here, right!?

11 Things

Gap dress, Old Navy tights & TOMS wedges

The Paper Mama asked these 11 questions, and since I'm a huge meme fan, I'm playing along!
1. Are you a cat or dog person? Or, bird person?
As much as I LOVE puppies... I think I'm more of a cat person.  We've adopted and found homes for many a stray and we currently have 2 of our own.  Cute fact: We once adopted a budgie and her name was Luna Bird. I took it as fate since my name was Lena Baird.  Freakishly similar, no?
2. What was your favorite food as a kid? Is it the same, or has it changed as an adult?
I was always a big fan of macaroni... we made a really weird concoction of macaroni, tomato juice & hot-dog wieners... I know! Gross, right!? So not... it's my favorite "comfort food" and I always crave it when I'm sick. I also add salt & vinegar to mine. Don't judge.
3. What is your favorite hobby?
Definitely photography!
4. If you HAD to move to a different state (or country) where would it be?
I've lived in Quebec my whole life... but I'd love to visit & maybe live in British Columbia.  Great vibe & beautiful views!
5. Are you a winter or summer person?
Summer!  I basically hibernate and/or complain all winter.
6. What makes you happy?
Watching my kids experience new things for the first time.  Sales.  New hairstyle.  Theatre popcorn.
7. What is the weirdest question you’ve ever been asked?
"Do you dye your eyebrows?"  I'm naturally fair, but I've always had dark eyebrows... go figure!
8. If you had to go on an adventure, with elves, dwarves, or hobbits, who would you take and why?
I think elves are cute! Yep, definitely elves.
9. You are at a rural retreat lodge somewhere deep in Wisconsin or Canada. You are approached by a taxidermist who hands you a stuffed badger and asks you to put it in your lap. What do you do next ?
There's actually a good chance we would have commissioned said badger.  My son is a big fan of hunting, fishing and anything mounted.  I'd probably be there picking it up for him.  I'm not a huge fan of taxidermy, but I'm madly in love with my kid and would do anything for him!
10. What was your first job?
Aside from babysitting, I worked as a waitress at my aunt's restaurant and also as a camp counsellor.  Fun times.
11. What is your favorite utensil?
I'm pretty sure you can eat almost anything with a spoon. So I pick spoon!

My 11 questions for you are:

1. When did you last laugh?

2. Which store would you choose to max out  your credit card?

3. What's under your bed?

4. What do you consider your best physcial feature?

5. What is your best childhood memory?

6. Grab the book nearest you, turn to page 18 & copy the fourth sentence here:

7. Seen anything weird lately?

8. If you could change one thing about your home, without worry or expense, what would you do?

9. What is your favorite time of day?

10. Do you believe in love at first sight?

11. Tell me something about you most people don't know.

If you answer my questions, please come back and add the link to the comments!

If my kids were cartoon characters, they'd be...

Just for fun, I thought I'd share the cartoon characters my kids most remind me of!
(is it just me, or do you sometimes just randomly associate certain cartoon characters with people you know in real life!?)

Memphis would totally be Dexter (Dexter's Laboratory)... a boy genius with a secret laboratory.
Memphis doesn't technically have a secret laboratory that we know of, but left to his own devices, I wouldn't be surprised if he did!  Memphis is the brains of our family. Even though he's 8, you'd be surprised at how often we say "Hmm... I'm not sure, let's ask Memphis, he'll know!"
Also, Dexter has a very spirited sister who often destroys his work.  The dynamic between the 2 of my kids is very similar!

The moment we were introduced to Agnes of Despicable Me, we couldn't get over how much she reminded us of our little Ruby. Aside from being adorable, they are both precocious, sensitive, funny and they love all the finer things of life such as candy, playing dressup and of course.... unciorns!

Has a cartoon character ever reminded you of your kids or someone else you knew? Share the comparisons in the comment section!

Passion For Fashion #35 : #100DaySpendingBan :

Yes, you read that right.
I'm on a self-imposed 100 Day Spending Ban and I have to admit that even though I'm less than a week in, it feels pretty good.  Donna of PolkaDot Pink, Rachel of Rachel The Hat & I are supporting each other in an effort to ban all unnecessary shopping for the next 100 days.  I'm pretty sure the three of us have enough dresses to clothe a couple dozen women for a month, without repeats... easy.  So it shouldn't be that hard, right?

When I mentioned earlier that it feels "good" I really meant it.  I've happily deleted every shop sale or promotion that has come through my inbox, and I'm looking forward to rediscovering all of my old clothes again.  I'm sure I have stuff in my closet (or in storage, or in my ironing pile) that I've only worn once or twice... so it pretty much is new stuff.  I will literally shop my own closet for the next 97 or so days.  April 15th if the "big day" when we get to shop again!  Imagine how exciting that will be!?

I'm just hoping these will still be available by then!!

Icon Do Anything Flats via Modcloth

Also, I'm hoping to have some fab outfit posts ready to link up soon... the weather has been horrible, and I've been sick as a dog since Christmas!
