How To "Dress Down" Sexy Boots

I picked up these Steve Madden boots at Sears a few years ago and I don't know why I haven't featured them more on the blog... they are so comfy and extremely versatile.  When you think of over-the-knee or thigh-high boots, you might think they're too *sexy* for everyday wear.  As a mom, you might think they wouldn't fit in with your busy lifestyle running after kids (& the million other things you have to do during the day)... but the truth is I've never actually styled them overtly sexy.  The fact that they are flats & not heels or stilettos helps keep them modest... and I've worn them with short dresses, long dresses, leggings & jeans.  I've worn them to work, and I often wear them on the weekends when we're out & about.

A perfect way to "dress down" your sexy boots to make them appropriate for errand-running or a day at the office it to pair them with casual pieces.  Like this sweater dress.

Can we just talk about the dress for minute!?  I'm usually more of a fit & flare kind of gal, but when I saw this sweater dress, I had to have it!  Perfect for the season, and this type of animal "print" is totally in right now. Win Win.  And it was on sale... plus an extra 40% off... and free shipping. Win Win Win.

As usual, I kept the rest of my outfit simple with minimal accessories.  But I'm thinking I could have added a chunky bracelet to really complete the look... but there's always next time!

I'd love to know how you style your "sexier" pieces into your everyday style!  Share in the comments or link back to a post!

Pinup Hair : guest post by Kathleen :

Hello all! I’m Kathleen, and I blog over at Don’t Stand On That, You’ll Break It.
I am many things, among them a wife, mother, Harry Potter nerd, and professional hairstylist.

Today I’m going to teach you how to do vintage pinup hair, also known as Victory Rolls!
You excited?
Me too! Let’s get started!

For this hairstyle you will need a comb, brush, bobby pins, and hairspray.

My lovely sister, Carrie, agreed to be my model. First, curl your hair a bit. I prefer a curling iron, but you can use whatever you want.

Next, separate a section of hair from the ear forward, and comb that section up towards the top of your head. Because Carrie has baby-fine hair, I back-combed it a bit to add some thickness, but you can skip that step.

Next, wrap that same section around two of your fingers, and when it is almost all wrapped, carefully slide it off of your fingers, so that it keeps its shape.

Finish rolling the section, keeping it in a circle, and pin it in place.
Repeat the same process on the other side, and spray!

And there you have it!
Don't get discouraged; this is a style that takes some practice. Just keep trying, and you'll get it!
 And have fun!

************

If I had much hair, I would totally try it! Such a cute look!  Thanks so much for stopping by Kathleen!

As much as I love blogging, with everything going on in or lives right now (see THIS post), I just do not have the time to invest in Lena B as much as I want to.  I enjoy this space so much, and I have so much respect for my readers & friends that it wouldn't feel right to completely ignore the blog right now... I will be posting as much as I can, but when I can't I have some awesome bloggers lined up to bring you some fabulous posts!  Please be nice to this rockin' ladies.  I appreciate them so much!

Foreverly

Hello friends! I'm Sue, the writer and dreamer behind As It Seems. It's wonderful to be back here visiting Lena's blog again. Last time I was here I shared my style and today I'm going to do that again (sort of). I've recently opened my own little shop called Foreverly where I sell handmade and personalized jewelry. I've made my own jewelry for about 5 years now and finally decided that perhaps I should make it for more than myself and my friends. The personalized jewelry is extra fun. My first personalized necklace I ever made was one for myself that says "sue & aaron" (that's my hubs) and every time I wear it I get complimented on it. It's extra special to me and I want to share that with everyone. I'm still a new shop and adding inventory every week. It's been so exciting to start this new venture!

I going to add more than jewelry in the next few months. I have flower/leaf crowns, leather creations, custom printed t-shirts, and even a few skirts in the works right now. Mostly I wanted to open the store now to help motivate myself to continue working on all of these amazing projects. It was easy to say I'll do it one day but then I made one day happen and I find myself chasing fast and hard after this dream of mine. Foreverly is my vision of pretty things for everyone. I named the shop after my sweet daughter Everly who is my inspiration for everything in this life. I hope you'll come visit me there!

PS You can use the code LENAB to take 15% off your orders for a limited time. Take advantage while you can!

Sue is the sweetest ever!  You can be sure that I'll be sporting a few Foreverly pieces in upcoming style posts... great shop, girl!  Thanks for stopping by again!

Passion For Fashion #30 : Yumi Pony Dress :

Yumi Horse Print Shirt dress via ASOS // Cropped Sweater: Walmart // TOMS Wedges
I've worn a horse dress before... but this one is completely different!  I love that I have multiple horse print dresses in my closet.  A girl can't have to many... *wink*

I managed to take these pics during the day, so yay for me!  But it was freezing... see that dusting of white in the photos above?  Snow.  I have no idea how I'll keep up with outfit posts once the real white stuff shows up.  One day at a time, right?

Floral 3 Ways : Heidi's Box of Various :

As much as I love blogging, with everything going on in or lives right now (see THIS post), I just do not have the time to invest in Lena B as much as I want to.  I enjoy this space so much, and I have so much respect for my readers & friends that it wouldn't feel right to completely ignore the blog right now... I will be posting as much as I can, but when I can't I have some awesome bloggers lined up to bring you some fabulous posts!  Please be nice to this rockin' ladies.  I apprecite them so much!

Heidi of Heidi's Box of Various is here today & she's sharing her spin on floral... 3 ways.  You'll be smitten with her, I'm sure.  She's totally adorable!  Be sure to stop by her blog & show her a little love, m'kay?

Hey Hey.
xXx
So a few of us have been given the honor of looking after Lena's cosy little corner
of the internet for a few weeks, and today it's my shift :) I thought that I'd do a three way
style-up with a pretty little t-shirt I recently thrifted .

When I saw this cute floral t-shirt hanging there, waiting for me on that rail, I knew at once it just had to be mine. We all know that feeling, I'm sure- when you don't even have to think about it, and the only deliberation you make is the pretend kind for etiquette's sake, to save you looking like a complete fashion vulture swooping in on your prey!
Decorum ladies, at all times! Although it is sometimes very difficult to hide your excitement.
Once laundered, I tried it on and was delighted to find it fit perfectly. I've worn it loads already. It's just so pretty and really comfy too, as it's stretch.

xXx
Firstly I paired it with shorts. This may not have been the most appropriate idea considering the season, but I just couldn't resist. I can't wait for summer to come back around now so I can show off the lovely denim and floral contrast.

Then I went a bit original and tried it under a little black dress, which I actually think worked quite well, for a more cutesy look.

Finally, I styled it with beige skinny jeans and tan slingback wedges.
The print makes me feel instantly feminine and the slight heel and skinnies give a more sophisticated air.

And for those who are interested, my nails are Marks and Spenser's Classics in No. 99- Black Orchid, but it's my Mum's from ages ago, so they probably don't do it any more unfortunately, which is a real shame because it's a lovely colour.

xXx

Well, thank you for having me, Lena. I've had a lovely time over here on Lena B, Actually.  Warmest wishes and the best of luck to you and your family, for Memphis' hospital stay. Looking forward to seeing you back soon!

The.Chunky.Sweater

Long Sweater: sheinside // Dress: gracie b // Jeggings: American Eagle // Boots: Madden Girl

To be honest with everything going on lately I would rather spend my days in bed snuggled under my cozy duvet.  For someone who loves to dress up, lately... I just want to be wrapped in something big & warm... and safe.

It's not surprising that I've spent a lot of time styling my new sweater from Sheinside.  I've worn it at home in my jammies, to work, with jeans and with dresses.  It's the perfect piece for Fall... and it totally satisfies my need to be totally 100% comfortable.  Right after I received this sweater, I ordered this one too.  I'm thinking I need more simple & cute chunky sweaters to make it through the cold months ahead.

Also, another look I'm extremely comfortable in lately? Cute flowy dresses over jeans with boots.  You may see a lot more of this kind of look on the blog in the next few months... you've been warned. *wink*

Sheinside offers FREE international shipping & if you check out the ad on my sidebar you can grab a promo code for 15% off your first order!
