What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?

Being a huge horror movie fan, and with Halloween just a few days away I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite scary movies.
Thing is, how do you narrow it down to a reasonable number of favorites for a quick blog post?
I just went with the first 7 that came to mind at.this.very.second.

Most of these are much more recent than the classics: The Shining, Halloween, Children of the Corn, Child's Play, The Exorcist... but just because they don't have the cult following of these more well known scary movies, it doesn't mean they won't still creep you the heck out.  Promise.

The Strangers and Vacancy are two that really, really spooked me the first time I saw them.  Of course, I grew up in the country, literally in the middle of nowhere... so a movie like The Strangers really hits home.  I can't even imagine having someone knock at my door wearing one of those masks.  Eek.  And Vacancy reinforces the reason why I will never (never, ever, ever) stay at anything but a top-notch hotel.

The Others is a beautifully told ghost story.  It's thrills & chills don't come from blood & gore... The twists & turns of the plot and the acting is impeccable!  Another reason to adore Nicole Kidman.

The Call is probably the newest movie that made the list.  It's definitely a nail-biter thriller. I went in sort of expecting it to not be good at all... I was pleasantly surprised! Attack The Block is a cheeky, british alien invasion movie. Need I say more?

House of 1,000 Corpes is scary for all the right reasons.  Super creepy characters, amazing sets and lots of ooey-gooey blood & guts to satisfy any hardcore movie buff.  Same goes for the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  I thought the original was scary, but the remake is even better.  I pull this one out at least 2 or 3 times a year... when I need a horror fix, but can't decide on anything else. This is my go-to scary movie these days...

What's your favorite scary movie?

Halloween Inspired Looks

With Halloween right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to put together a few outfits inspired by this spooky holiday!

First up is the sexy kitty costume inspired look... There are so many quirky cat print dresses out there (like this or this) that all you need to take it to the "Halloween" appropriate level are a slinky pair of high black boots, fun accessories like a cat-eared headband (or this cat beret!) and a fun leopard print clutch!
Meow

We can also have a little fun putting together a cute devil look like this one.  Red leather pants, paired with a sheer red blouse would be perfect paired with a long red jacket & cute strappy sandals.  Have fun with some blood red nail polish & sassy accessories!

Devil

Last, but not least... what would Halloween be without a witch!?
For the witch look, you want to be cool but gawdy.  This means mixing lots of textures & fabrics... be sure to mix in lots of black and some spooky accessories like these skull bangles & black fingerless gloves!

Witchy

Have a very happy & safe Halloween!

Passion For Fashion #25 : Train of Thought :

Dress: ModCloth ''stylish surprise'' // Sweater: Thrifted // Tights: Old Navy // Bag: Urban Planet
Funny story about this dress... it's another sweet stylish surprise from Modcloth and I was so excited when I got it, but sad because it seemed ill-suited for the Fall weather we're experiencing right now.  I tried it with a cardigan, but I still felt like I looked I was trying too hard to hold onto Summer.

BUT(!!) after putting it on, I realized I couldn't get it off.  The zipper was stuck.  So I had to make it work.  I had forgotten I even had this sweater, but I layered it over the dress, threw on a pair of fall-colored tights, my favorite TOMS wedge booties and I was good to go.  I loved that my new oversized skull bag worked with the look too!  Fashion crisis averted!!

Also, totally unrelated to this post... but I am trying to win a new camera.  All you have to do is click here and like my photo on the Kia Canada FB page.  Thanks!!

WORE : Thanksgiving Sunday :

Cardigan: Walmart // Blouse: Bootlegger // Jeans: American Eagle // Boots: Zulily
Sunday I celebrated Canadian Thanksgiving with my family at my parent's home in the country.  This is the first year we attempted dinner OUTSIDE.  The weather has been gorgeous lately, and we are a pretty big gang... made sense.  Except mother nature had other ideas.  It was a damp, cool and dreary day... but good company, delicious food and a big tent helped make it a day to remember!

A few of my cousins were there with their new babies, always exciting... and the older kids, who don't always get to see each other had a blast!

This year, I have so much to be thankful for.  This time last year my husband was deep in his depression... it's so nice to have him back.  Fully.  We are bracing ourselves for a bumpy few weeks or months with Memphis... he will be hospitalized at a children's psychiatric hospital in a few weeks... so scary. But I've had my meltdown and I'm looking forward to him getting the kind of help & evaluation he needs to be able to function & thrive at school.  I am also thankful for my daughter, who brings a smile to my face no matter what kind of day I'm having.

I'm thankful to have a job close to home who understands that sometimes I need to put being a mom first.  "You didn't choose this for your child, we're here for you" - yeah, my boss actually said that.  How awesome is that?  I'm also on my way to another promotion & more responsibilities.

After years of struggling financially, we're back on track.  Not worrying all the time about money is such a weight lifted off my shoulders.  Are we rich? Not according to our bank account... but we're doing okay.

I am thankful for my hobbies that bring me happiness & challenges & new friends.  Through blogging & photography I have put myself out there and gotten to know people I might not have met otherwise.

So, in a nutshell... I'm kind of a lucky gal.  I know it.

I got a hamster car!

PLEASE HELP ME WIN A NEW CAMERA...
Just click on this link -- it will direct you to the Kia Canada page.  Just "like & comment" on the photo of my new car & I could win a brand new camera!

Last Friday I became the proud owner of an adorable white Kia Soul 4u.
This is extra exciting because it's my very first BRAND NEW car.  Ever.
I'm almost 34 years old... so this is a big step for me.  I feel like such a success. Ha!

When I crunched the numbers of our budget and realized that we could actually afford a car payment, the hunt was on.  Kia Souls have a look that I've always been drawn too.  Quirky, but cool.  Kinda how I like to think of myself. *wink*

Affordability, style and a 5-star safety rating made it an easy choice.
I've loved driving it around town and showing it off to friends, family & co-workers.
I'm proud of having negotiated a great package too.. winter tires on rims, a car started, molded car mats, sun roof, UVO, satellite radio and an 8yr (150,00kms) warranty is pretty kick ass.  All within my budget.  *insert happy face here*

For those you who don't get the "hamster car" reference...
maybe this will refresh your memory:

Be sure to scroll back a few posts too... I'm hosting some great giveaways right now!
