Celebrating 1600 + Giveaway

This week that number over there on the right hand side of your screen hit 1600.
Sure, some of you are here only because it was an entry in a giveaway... and that's fine. Sooner or later, I hope to win you over! 'wink'

What truly warms my heart is that a lot of you are here for me.
You have made a genuine effort to get to know me & my family.  You comment on my posts, you offer encouragement, you brighten my day with your kind words and you have helped me reach another exciting milestone.  I can't put into words how much I appreciate your support... it's been an amazing journey... especially for a small town girl in Quebec!!

I can't thank you enough, but what I can do is enlist the help of some amazing shop owners to bring you another fabulous giveaway!

Three of my favorite Etsy ladies are here today!  Brittany Chavers has been a regular around here... she hosted my very first giveaway when I hit 50 followers way back in June 2011!  I already own 2 Imprintalish handmade necklaces and I'm totally addicted!  And I sip my coffee from Betwixxt's "Zombies Eat Brains" mug... every single day.  They are talented, they are cool & I'm proud to call them my friends!

One reader will win all of this...

 Giveaway is open to everyone!

Entries are monitored, so play fair!
If you have any problems with the Rafflecopter, let me know!

What's My Age, Again?

Grey Jeans & Sweater: Joe Fresh // Top: Urban Planet // Boots: Zulily
Sometimes I forget I'm 33.
I look at other 33 year olds around me and they look awesome... but I'm pretty sure most of them are past studded boots & skinny jeans.  I wonder if I'm stuck.
Or is this just me?
I'm a mom.  I'm responsible.  I work at an insurance company... that's all pretty ''normal.''
But I shaved my head.
I pierced my nose.
I got a big tattoo on my leg.
All within the past few years.
Am I going through some sort of early mid-life crisis... or am I finally able to just be me?
I'm leaning more towards the latter.
I've never much cared what other people think about me, but I've always been self-conscious.
I didn't want to bring any extra attention to myself.
I'm okay with that now.
This is who I am... take it or leave it!
Like it or don't like it.
I like me.
Finally.

Baby, It's Cold Outside

Jacket: Roxy // Boots: Sorel
First of all, if you're looking for Tuesday10, I won't be hosting it anymore...
check out Life As Mindy from now on!!  She totally rocks!

So, yeah... the weather has been crazy cold lately!
Minus 40 with the windchill last week!  It's made for some really long days.  The kids can't go out, and being cooped up inside all day leads to a very wild evening...
We all go a little stir crazy!

The weather has warmed up since... but I'm still TOTALLY over it! Bring on, Spring! Puh-lease!!
I'm tired of big bulky jackets and clunky boots.

I miss the days when I just need to grab my purse, slip on a cute pair of shoes & away we go!

I'll probably regret asking this... but how is the weather where you are?

Ruby Saved The Polar Bears

Or at the very least, she tried.
Earlier this month, Ruby saw the Earth Rangers' Bring Back the Wild commercial on TV and begged me to sign her up to be an "Earth Ranger."

Basically, Bring Back the Wild is a kid powered fundraising campaign that empowers kids to help protect animals and their habitats.  You can find out more about it here.

Ruby decided she wanted to raise money to help save the polar bears. Her goal was $125.
With the generous donations of friends & family, and a successful cake auction, she reached her goal!

The cake auction helped raise $55!  The cake was made my Becca's Country Cakes & won by my cousin... who graciously gave it to Ruby.   It was a pretty big cake, so I decided to let Ruby invite a couple friends over to help her celebrate!

Luckily, my mom stopped in & she organized a few crafts for the girls!
After crafts & cake, they played twister & barbies and it was just such a cute afternoon!

I am so proud that Ruby is aware of how important our planet is for all of us.  She's only 5, but she had a goal & she achieved it!  Love her!

My Mom Style

Sweater: Joe Fresh // Vest: Walmart // Jeans: Silver via HauteLook // Necklace: Imprintalish // Nails: Essie's Bikini So Teeny & Wet 'N Wild's SaGreena The Teenage Witch // Chucks: FAKE!!

This is my go-to "mom" style & definitely my most casual type of look.
I'm far from high maintenance, but I usually prefer dresses... even the on the weekends!

Yesterday I hosted a playdate for Ruby & a couple of her little friends and I wanted/needed to be comfortable.  I've been dying to wear this necklace for awhile, but couldn't figure out how to pull it off.  It's such a funky piece.

Since I'm so into dresses lately, I rarely wear jeans anymore... but I do love these ones!
I paired them with a sweater & a vest... both grey.  This is something I hadn't done before.  I usually like more of a contrast, but the monochromatic color scheme helped showcase the necklace!
Ta-da!

Speaking of that necklace... Imprintalish has an awesome sale happening right now!
Use code WINTER30 for 30% off... and if you buy two items or more & receive free shipping in the US & Canada!

I've never been able to do the yoga pants things... I'm either in my pajamas or I'm fully "dressed."  Aside from jeans, I don't have much else that would be considered casual.

I'm curious... what's your mom style?  If you're not a mom, what's your go-to comfy look?

I have to add that I was totally taking these pics while Memphis was playing some game on the Wii... I'm sure I was totally in the way, but he was so focused he didn't even seem to notice! Ha!  A mom's got to do, what  mom's gotta do, right!?

I'm not one of those girls who is super attached to her hair.
I get bored with it really, easy actually.
My philosophy is to try as many new things as I can... and if I hate something, it'll grow back/grow out... no biggie!

Since June, I've gone from long, brunette with bangs to a blonde bob, to a blonde pixie and now some sort of shaved & long on top Miley Cyrus/P!nk type of  'do!

It's been fun!  What do you think of where I'm at now?
The hubs isn't sure of it yet... Memphis prefers my pixie and Ruby LOVES the latest & thinks I look like a rock star! Ha!

Don't forget to enter my current giveaway!
Have a great weekend!

Tell me about it, stud...

dress: Old Navy // cardigan: ModCloth // boots: Zulily

Fact: I am obsessed with these boots.

I cannot get enough of them!  I love pairing them with a fun pair of tights & a dress.
It's my favorite look and I probably wear a few different versions of this exact outfit a few times a week.
Have I mentioned the weather here in Canada has been C-O-L-D lately!? -40 with the windchill anyone!?   Doesn't matter... Mother Nature can't dish out anything me & my tights can't handle!

Fact: This outfit will also be forever known as the one I wore to register my baby for kindergarten.

- insert mommy blubbering mommy moment here -

Ruby will be entering the French Immersion Program this coming September.  We are so excited the school has brought this option to the community.  Being bilingual is very important around here (we live in Quebec), and because of Memphis' issues, sending HIM to a French school wasn't a possibility.  Now, we'll be able to send both kids to the SAME school even though they will be following 2 separate programs.
Bittersweet that my little girl is growing up, but starting this new chapter with her will be awesome!

And because I haven't been able to get this song out of my head since I typed in the post title...

Blogging Obligation :: Whispering Sweet Nothings ::

Happy Friday!
I am sooooo happy to have another sponsor visiting the blog today!

We all struggle, or have struggled, to find our "niche" in the blogging community.  Most of us probably started off very small with very little expectations... until those pageviews started going up & the followers started coming.  We probably had no idea the amount of work we would face once we started swapping buttons & eventually start accepting paid sponsorships... right!?

Well, the lovely Shane of Whispering Sweet Nothings is here with her take on blogging obligations!

Take it away girl!

*****

Hello loyal Lena B readers!
Boy do I have a treat for you today.
Oh yes, introductions. That's me, Shane, and my little fam down there.

I write over at Whispering Sweet Nothings & craft jewelry for WhisperingSweetly. Please pop by and introduce yourself, I love new visitors :)

Now, here's my take on the "Blogging Obligation"

I literally have one friend that blogs. The rest of my friends and family enjoy reading mine but say they would never be able to take one on themselves. In a perfect world, every one of my 756 friends on Facebook would switch over to blogging.  People would be real.  It wouldn't be a slew of status updates, check-in's and pointless drama.

Now I know not everyone has the time, motivation or creativity to be a blogger.  But hey, I never in a million years thought I would be a blogger by any means.  I don't plan to become the next Casey Wiegand and make a living from my blog (Although she is amazing, don't get me wrong).

On blogging:  I feel like its something I "have" to do to keep my readers happy.   Even if I have 3 exams to study for, an interview to prepare for, and business meetings to attend each night.

And if you're like me, you have way more obligations to take care of than hours in the day.

Blogging should not be an obligation.

It should be something you enjoy for you.  Not your 3456 followers, not for your mom, not for your dog.

I began Whispering Sweet Nothings when my lovely cousin Megan began the 30 Day Challenge and I just had to jump on board. After the 30 days I took a break for a few months, then decided to start back up while I spent the summer in DC.  It became a place for me to vent about emotions, express my creativity (something I don't get much oppurtunity for stuck in an office dealing with finances 40+ hours a week), and just be me.

Once I really got going readership grew faster than I ever imagined...
then sponsor swapping began...
then the obligations came.

Sometimes I feel like I HAVE to post something each and every day.

Let's face it, I don't have a friend that will take a photo shoot of my less-than-stellar choice of outfits each and every day.  Being a college student, the only days I look nice are Friday through Sunday if I'm lucky.

My crafty side is seriously lacking... Scrapbooking is my only exception.
Sometimes I fall victim to throwing a bunch of Pins I find appealing on Pinterest which is clearly in no way my own ideas, simply because I don't have the enough hours in the day.

And I'm pretty positive I could burn boiling water...or cake pops. Fail!

I follow all these Mommy bloggers, fashion bloggers, DIY bloggers, none of which I fall under the umbrella of.  So what is my blog?  That is actually something I am still trying to define for myself.  I have "met" so many amazing people on here that I wish I could have as friends in real life.

I promise I will keep up with all the sponsoring/giveaway/random goodness that happens on this blog, for years to come.  If I'm lucky, you will eventually see photo dumps of my future children.

I just don't always have the gusto to promise that Monday will be outfit day, Tuesday will be X day, etc.  I have taken on a few projects: Bloggers Coast to Coast, Weekend Wanderings, Secrets on a Sunday, and Operation Beautiful.

Blogs should be fun!  Your blog should be an expression of you, and not just for gaining followers, so in my opinion there is no "right" way to do it!  Just be YOU!

So tell me, why are YOU here?

Fake Frames & Yellow Jell-O

Curry Me Away Dress via ModCloth // Shoes via Lulu's // Hipster Frames via Claire's

"Hey kids... what rhymes with yellow?"
Memphis: "Fellow!!"
Ruby: "JELL-O! Yummmmm...."

That kid is always thinking about food!!  I swear!  Especially of the sweet variety!
Anyone else feel like their kids might eat them out of house & home soon!?

As soon as we get in the door after work/school/daycare, it's
"Can we have a before supper snack?"
Then after supper, they want an after supper snack, a before bath snack & an after bath snack!  Of course!  'sigh'

We've been keeping lots of fruits & veggies ready to go, and that usually satisfies them...
for a while.

I hate saying no, but there comes a point when enough is enough.  I want to make sure they grow up with healthy eating habits, so the plan is to allow them dessert after supper (which is usually apple slices or something like that since I can't don't bake) and then 1 little snack before bed.  I'm considering getting a lock for the fridge too... it isn't going to be easy!

What is your "snack" plan?  Whether you have kids or not, I'm interested to find out who snacks after supper, how often & what do you snack on?  Healthy tips welcomed!!

Oh, and yeah... those frames are totally fake?  Did I pull them off!?
true story: I've wanted glasses since I was a little girl, but have been blessed with pretty rockin' eyesight... is it okay to fake it?

Tuesday10 :: the end ::

I can't believe this is my LAST Tuesday10... well, not forever, I'll definitely be linking up with the new host in the future... but this is the last Tuesday10 hosted here.  It's bittersweet!

I am excited to announce the new host of Tuesday10 is....
***drumroll please***

My Life As Mindy
So head on over there NOW and bookmark her page so you won't miss out on any upcoming Tuesday10 fun!
Mindy has been linking up for awhile and I had a feeling she would jump at the chance to take it over! She's super cool, to boot, I have no doubt she'll be a great hostess!!

Now, back to this week's theme!
I am so excited to welcome Cody of Solemn Sound here today as my final co-host!

She suggested this week's theme in honor of National Handwriting Day:
10 Things You Still Handwrite
{reminder: the theme isn't a MUST, just a prompt!}

I definitely struggled with this list!
It's so sad that birthday wishes are posted on Facebook walls and big news is shared via text message nowadays.
I remember writing love notes to my husband when we started dating... and secretly passing notes & letters to friends in schools.  I used to keep a diary... I have 4 of 5 of them packed with handwritten stories of my youth.  'sigh'
The times have definitely changed!

I'm excited to see everyone's list.  I wonder if there are many people who still take the time to write letters to friends & family anymore!

Grab a button & link up!

{you don't have to follow the "theme" to link up, it's just a prompt!
Any & every Tuesday10 list is welcomed!!}

The Rules
Tuesday10 is pretty laid back when it comes to linky. The only rule is to link up a list... of 10 things. Whether you use the prompt or not! It would also be awesome if you visited my co-host & left her a little love!

LenaBActually

Thank you for being a HUGE part in this little linky! I've had so much fun!
Be sure to check out Mindy's blog next Tuesday!!
