What's Your Favorite Scary Movie?

Being a huge horror movie fan, and with Halloween just a few days away I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite scary movies.
Thing is, how do you narrow it down to a reasonable number of favorites for a quick blog post?
I just went with the first 7 that came to mind at.this.very.second.

Most of these are much more recent than the classics: The Shining, Halloween, Children of the Corn, Child's Play, The Exorcist... but just because they don't have the cult following of these more well known scary movies, it doesn't mean they won't still creep you the heck out.  Promise.

The Strangers and Vacancy are two that really, really spooked me the first time I saw them.  Of course, I grew up in the country, literally in the middle of nowhere... so a movie like The Strangers really hits home.  I can't even imagine having someone knock at my door wearing one of those masks.  Eek.  And Vacancy reinforces the reason why I will never (never, ever, ever) stay at anything but a top-notch hotel.

The Others is a beautifully told ghost story.  It's thrills & chills don't come from blood & gore... The twists & turns of the plot and the acting is impeccable!  Another reason to adore Nicole Kidman.

The Call is probably the newest movie that made the list.  It's definitely a nail-biter thriller. I went in sort of expecting it to not be good at all... I was pleasantly surprised! Attack The Block is a cheeky, british alien invasion movie. Need I say more?

House of 1,000 Corpes is scary for all the right reasons.  Super creepy characters, amazing sets and lots of ooey-gooey blood & guts to satisfy any hardcore movie buff.  Same goes for the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.  I thought the original was scary, but the remake is even better.  I pull this one out at least 2 or 3 times a year... when I need a horror fix, but can't decide on anything else. This is my go-to scary movie these days...

  1. I adore spooky movies--especially this time of year! The most recent one I saw that truly scared me was The Conjuring. Night of the Living Dead never fails to spook me, either. Hugs, T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  2. What Lies Beneath! I'm not a huge fan of spooky films but I have watched that one about a hundred times! Good old Harrison Ford.

I watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Amityville Horror (2005 version, aka Ryan Reynolds version), Halloween H20, and The Sixth Sense on Saturday... ended with The Sixth Sense because I knew I could "handle" it better! lol!!
I only get the urge to watch them every now and then, usually around this time of year of course!! ;)

  5. I love scary movies!!! I've seen most of those.. The Strangers is so creepy!! I also liked The others...very particular. Some of my favourites are the Ring movies and the Grudge.. some of them are really weird, the newer ones, but the first ones are really good, well made.

  7. Nope not a one. I am a chick flick calm movie viewer. I saw "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte" in a theater with my 12 years old friends (it was an accidental double feature - we were there to see Beach Blanket Bingo or some such nonsense with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon) but we saw the yucky scarey one first and that movie warped me for LIFE! LOL
