I Define My Style.

Dress: ModCloth / Boots: Madden Girl / Sweater: Walmart / Necklace: Through The Eyes of the Mrs.
Let's talk about "personal style" today, m'kay?

I've always been a firm believer is self-expression.
If you want to dye your hair purple, go for it.
If you want to wear a dress with sneakers or airplanes on it, why not?

Of course there are "rules" and muffin tops will NEVER be in style... but if you feel good wearing it, and people can look an outfit you put together and say "that's so you" then THAT, my friends, is personal style.  Your particular style might not appeal to the masses, but that's okay.

Embrace fashion.  Have fun with it.  Go with the flow!

In high school I went through a hippie phase... in my early twenties, I was a bit more punk rock.
Now I'm a mom and my fashion reflects that... always cute, of course, but it's got to be functional.  If I can't run after my kids in it, or if I'd have a meltdown if it gets dirty... it just ain't for me.
A couple years ago, I lived in my jeans... but nowadays you're likely to find me in a dress, colored tights and some sort of funky shoe or boot.

My style doesn't define me.  I define my style.

See that necklace I'm wearing up there... Beth of Through the Eyes of the Mrs. made it!  Here's a bit more about her, in her own words:
I'm a writer and have been blogging for years. My heart feels complete when I'm creating or writing. You will find me talking about parenting, style, crafting, marriage and daily life. I'm amazed at the friendships I share with my readers. I've been a lover of creating beautiful things all of my life. Handmade is always sweeter and I finally decided to follow my heart and open my own shop last year. I'm so excited to be coming out with an entire new line of pretties this Spring! I would love to get to know you and hear from you!

This is Precisely what I've always said about fashion. I make up my own fashion, and who cares about rules. And I do so happen to have purple hair.... :P

I pinned this post before I even finished scrolling down the page, and your words made me glad I did. I LOVE this dress under the sweater, and the tights and combat boots are comfy, but still stylish. I have to try this combination.

You're right about personal style, too. It's not about what other people think I should or shouldn't wear. It's about what makes me feel good and works for my lifestyle.

That is so right. You define your style, not the other way around. Great post. I love to see your smile.

I really like the way you worded this. I totally agree with you by the way! I can't stand being put in a box for a specific one-fits-all style...style is so fluid.

This message so resonates with me. I have always been one to refuse to be defined by what other people think. I think it would be so cool if people did their own thing with their own style in the own way often. I mean that kind of blatant diversity would inspire me, and probably lots of people.

I agree. Style should reflect our personality before the trends.
