What's My Age, Again?

Grey Jeans & Sweater: Joe Fresh // Top: Urban Planet // Boots: Zulily
Sometimes I forget I'm 33.
I look at other 33 year olds around me and they look awesome... but I'm pretty sure most of them are past studded boots & skinny jeans.  I wonder if I'm stuck.
Or is this just me?
I'm a mom.  I'm responsible.  I work at an insurance company... that's all pretty ''normal.''
But I shaved my head.
I pierced my nose.
I got a big tattoo on my leg.
All within the past few years.
Am I going through some sort of early mid-life crisis... or am I finally able to just be me?
I'm leaning more towards the latter.
I've never much cared what other people think about me, but I've always been self-conscious.
I didn't want to bring any extra attention to myself.
I'm okay with that now.
This is who I am... take it or leave it!
Like it or don't like it.
I like me.
Finally.

  1. I could have written this post. My in-laws recently asked me if I was going through a mid-life crisis cause first I dyed my hair glow in the dark red and then shaved it all off. I think its great that you are feeling/dressing and acting the way you do. Just cause you don't look like all the other moms as school doesn't mean anything. (plus I'm older than you & I still wear skinny jeans and studs and shaves my head) You rock! Stack that way!

  3. You look super! I never think about my age, half the time I forget how old I am. I don't think it matters really, just do as you want and what makes you feel good. That's what matters most :) x

  5. Love your style, Lena - I don't feel my age either, so I can relate! Wish I could pull of a 'do like yours, it's AWESOME!!! Be you, be free, be happy!!

  6. I think you are just definitely becoming more 'you' now and doing what a lot of us don't have the guts to do (to be true to ourselves because life really is short) I want to wear massive 1950s dresses with netted skirts underneath but I daren't in case people look at me funny, now that is a stupid way to live your life. I wish I had your free spirit and sense of adventure. I can be brave and adventurous in where I go and what I do but it doesn't carry across into what I wear, I worry too much about what other people think about me (which is dumb) I am 31 going on 32 and I really shouldn't care so much. I could learn a lot from you! And you look AWESOME!!

  7. I do that all the time! I am almost 29 but I just can't relate with other 29 year olds sometimes. And I must say I am in love with your hair! It looks absolutely fantastic on you!

  8. Gurl, you are still just a "baby" - enjoy yourself and have fun. I'll be 52 this year and will never let the number define me!!!

  9. I feel like I have this same problem. I look at other mom's picking up their kindergartener and then I look at my outfit and I wonder if I'm the weird one. Half of them look like they stepped out of a fitness/health magazine...the other half look like they stepped out of a J.crew ad. I don't think any of them know how to step out of their comfort zone honestly.

  11. You just have fashion, you're proving you don't have to be dead to be a mom!

    You rock it!

  12. I hope I wear studded boots and skinny jeans for a long time to come! Age is no reason to stop wearing the styles you love. At the most extreme of situations (hmmm 90 year old and wearing teeny bopper clothes), you'll look a little silly--but if you love what you wear, no need to care if other people laugh?

  14. without a doubt the later!!!!
being a fellow 33yr old and someone who's also in a state of big change I completely understand where you're coming from.
I keep adding ink that I have no problem showing in the bank office i work in :)
I wore an orange dress and polka dots tights today. I'm upset because the hair cut I got monday was a fail! It looks like 50yr old lady hair WTF? :)
embrace this stage and RUN with it!
by doing that you're teaching your kids that it's okay to be different and express themselves authentically. it's a lesson I wish I'd learned a long time ago. It's a lesson i hope to teach my friends daughters , that's the job of a good Aunty Brooke.

  15. I'm 28. Got a tattoo on my birthday (which I had been planning and replanning and redesigning for 5 years). I dye my hair a new color every couple months. Right now its black with a blonde strip and I added a 'peacock feather' of purple blue and green. I say your just being yourself. Rock it girl.
