Blog Angel... the big REVEAL

Okay, remember how I posted about being a blog angel?
Well, it's finally time to spill the beans and announce who I've been "supporting."

I have to admit that it's been kind of weird. I found it very challenging to be supportive without giving away the fact that I was that person's blog angel... so I'm excited that she will finally know and I can be open in my support of her & her lovely blog!!

Girl, did you know!?
Haha... I'm horrible at keeping secrets!

Basically, I gained a new friend & a wonderful new blog to read every day!
I supported her by commenting on her posts, and mentioning her on Facebook & Twitter whenever I could!
I also suggested swapping ad space. Instead of just "swap" spots, I suggested a small ad which meant I could include her in a sponsor feature post!

I would have LOVED to have just given her some free ad space, but that might have been a little suspicious, no?  So, Meredith my dear... msg me & I'll give you a code for some free ad space!  Yay!

I had a wonderful time being Meredith's blog angel... but I will NOT stop supporting her now that the secret is out... it's only going to get better!

Meredith is also lined up for a fab guest post in my Fashion Days Summer Series, stay tuned for that!
You can follow her on Twitter & Facebook too!!

Bathtime Fun

My kids are wild AND wacky &  they certainly keep me on my toes!!  They're at that age now {4 & 6} where they either get along fabulously... or not at all.

Case in point.  I used to LOVE bathtime.  It was a nice "wind down" from our day... there was nothing better than hanging out in a warm room listening to their giggles & splashes, am I right?  Not to mention the smell!  Oh, babies smelll sooooo good after a bath!

Well, that has changed a lot in the past year or two.

When they do take a bath together, there's splashing alright... AND lots of whining and screaming too.  Nobody thinks they're dirty and nobody thinks they need their hair washed.  The whole thing had become quite unpleasant, actually.

Until I remember something I saw on Pinterest a while back.

Glow sticks!!
Can I get an "Amen!?"

I'm totally serious!  Grab a few of these, turn off the lights and it's a whole new experience!  They LOVE it!  And it's such an inexpensive "treat" at the end of the day!  They're having fun, and I get to make sure they're clean... without any screaming or arguing.  It's a win-win!

So, that's just a tip from one mother to another!
I'd love to hear your tips for keeping bath time under control!

Lazy Day Wear

Some days I just don't even feel like trying to look cute.
Fashion fail, maybe?
The shirt was too short. The shorts were too short,
Some days I just don't care...
and that's alright.
I wasn't going anywhere.

{I'm actually not always such a slob... I was recently featured over at Rae Gun Ramblings! Yay!}

Fashion Days :: Rockin' Accessories :: Flats to Flip Flops

Hey there!
So excited to be apart of Lena's Fashion Days Summer Series!

My name is Ashley and I blog over at flats to flip  flops!  I love blogging about things that are close to my heart.  One of those being fashion!  I love taking high fashion trends and making them more accessible and less intimating to all of us mom's on the go.  Because we can look great, feel comfortable and be trendy too!

Today I am talking about one of my favorite fashion items...accessories!

Accessories can make or break an outfit my friends!  They can also make a simple outfit something special!  Especially accessories with a bit of edge!
So today I am going to share with you my top 5 Rockin Accessories that will turn your outfit from Rock-A-Bye to Rockstar!

Grab some funky earrings!
A t-shirt and jeans can be instantly jazzed up with some fun earrings.  Mine below are feather earrings I got from Forever 21 for like 3 buckaroo's.  Can't beat that!

Rock out with a Bandanna!
Not gonna lie, I love me some bandanna's!  I may or may not own one in every color.  And I may or may not be wearing one as I type this! It's such an easy way to one, quickly get my hair done and looking right, and two, instantly feel rockin!

Throw on a scarf!
Wanna instantly take your outfit from bore to score?  Throw on a scarf!  Choose bold color's and patterns when looking for a scarf.  That way it adds a pop to your outfit!

Go Chunky!
This is the one time you want a little chunk!
Grab yourself a big and bold necklace and add it to any outfit and you will definitely stand out!

Add a Pin or Brooch!
No longer just for your Grandmama, a pin or brooch can really add a little something something to your outfit! A great place to find a fun new pin is at antique shops!

So ladies, don't be afraid to add bold accessories to your outfits to help bring out the inner Rock Star in you!

Thanks, girl!
Is there any doubt as to why she is one of my faves!?
Not only is she incredibly stylish, she's very giving as well!
Ashley is offering this prize to one of my readers!!

Giveaway ends Saturday, June 30th at midnight!

The Girl Behind The Blog

I absolutely LOVE when bloggers "vlog"... it's a fab way to get to know someone better.
Seriously, how often to you visit a blog and think "I wonder what she's like in real life!?"
There's just something special about hearing someone's voice... it's so "them."

HOWEVER, I'm not a fan of posting blogs because a) I have no idea how to edit it to make me look better {haha!} and b) I get really nervous when I have to speak in public... and let's face it... this is going to be on the world wide web forever!!

But, I did it!
5OhWifey hosts a great linkup and I jumped at the chance!

I probably said "ummmmm" like way too many times,
and I should NOT be wearing horizontal stripes on camera....
AND I think I made a lot of weird faces.

But it was fun.
I'll probably do it again. Ha!

And for the record... as for home decor style... right now I'd say "eclectic" & "mish-mased" and if you're wondering what kind of music I love... well, MOST of it really.  I love everything from the The Beatles to Justin Bieber, Johnny Cash & Loretta Lynn to Adele, KISS to Rancid.... the only thing I'm not crazy about is "new country" and anything too "heavy."

Other pet peeves... dirty laundry on the floor & rude people on the phone.
And guilty pleasures... Diet Dr. Pepper, pedicures & old musicals!

Rated F for Family, A for Awesome

Every now & then a great movie comes along that we can enjoy as a family.
I'm not talking about those silly cartoons that we, as adults, tolerate... or the hybrids like, The Chipmunks, Hop & The Smurfs {although, we do love those too!}...

I'm talking about a smart, beautiful film that make us all think & feel AND prompts our children to ask us questions that really matter.

Big Miracle is that movie.

I rented it this weekend to make Memphis happy.  The kid is obsessed with anything that swims lately, and this fit the bill.

I didn't expect to like it as much as I did.

If you're unfamiliar with the plot, the movie is based on true events.  In 1988, a family of whales are trapped in the arctic circle by rapidly forming ice... the story follows their inspiring rescue.

We watched this movie together, as a family, and my kids understood that there are things worth fighting for & that by working together we can accomplish pretty much anything.
Hope. Faith.

I giggled, and I cried.
Heck! Maybe I was just emotional this weekend, but I deemed this movie good enough to blog about!

p.s. Drew Barrymore, John Krasinski, Ted Danson, Kristen Bell & Dermot Mulroney totally rocked this movie too!

Have you seen it?

Other movies I've really LOVED lately:
The Grey
Crazy, Stupid, Love.
Water For Elephants

What have you been watching?

If you're looking for the Tuesday10 linkup, Paige at The Eloping Stethescope will be hosting it for the next few weeks!

Cleaning Out My Closet

Hey lovelies!
I'm sure you know this by now, but I LOVE fashion. I believe a girl can NEVER have enough clothes or shoes... I know, I know. I sound terribly materialistic, but bear with me... I'm cheap!
I LOVE thrifting and NEVER, ever pay full price for ANYTHING!
See, not so bad, right?

All these clothes need to be put away somewhere...
Fortunately, I aboslutely LOVE reorganizing my closet, and it just so happens I'm about to pull out my summer clothes (it's finally warm here! yay!).
I try to do this at least once a month, but the change of seasons is a perfect excuse to get into my closet and whip it into shape!

I thought I could do a simple tutorial {if it can even be called that!} on closet organization.
I have LOTS of stuff... very little space!

Ugh. What a mess, right?

First things first:

Always go through and put away clothes that are no longer appropriate for the season.
You don't need 12 sweaters at hand in the summer.
Get those out of there.

While you're in there, if you can't remember wearing something for the past 6-12 months... get rid of that too.  Unless it holds some sort of sentimental value, you probably don't need it anymore.  If it's still in good shape {and depending what it is}, why not donate it or sell it on Ebay!?

Now, comes the actually sorting and organization.
There are a ton of ways you can do this:
Style, Color, Brand, etc.

I've decided to do style & color.
Similar tops together, slips, skirts, dresses, pants...

I have a lot of pattern in my closet... so I use the "main" color as my starting point...
It's not going to be perfect! {dang it!}

This is was the "top" section looks like now...

Next, I made sure to hang all my slips together, and my denim skirts as well.
As for dresses, I debated about going simply by style & length... but then decided to do it by color too.  As best I could... again, I have a lot of patterns in there so my closet will never look as color-blocked as I would like {yes, I'm sorta geeky that way... BUT I love a good pattern too, so what's a girl to do!?}

I keep my jeans on the top shelf, so I just tidied those up a bit...

If you have a ton of denim, I would suggest going by fit & color too...

That's it.
Much better than when I started, and ready for me to fill it up even more with my summer stuff!!

Fashion Days :: Pastel + Lace :: Marionberry Style

Layering pastels is a fun + easy way to add depth and interest.
Here I chose mint green and soft pink.

Pastels and lace overflowed the Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton runway...kicking off one of the season's biggest trends: pastels + lace.  So for this "Fashion Days Summer Series" I thought I would celebrate this trend!

The "30-something year old Marion" loves it.
But the "7-year old tomboy Marion" kinda wants to barf.

What do you think about the pastel + lace trend?

XO - Marion

Thanks Marion!
What a great kick off to the series!

I personally LOVE the pastel & lace trend...
not sure I could pull it off as well as she did... but I might just try!

If you're interested in being a part of Fashion Days this summer, contact me!  Would love to have you!

Later this week, Ashley of Flats to Flip Flops will be here with tips on how accessories can rock any outfit!!

Cheers to Summer {June Sponsors}

Summer brings back so many special memories...
Growing up on a farm in the middle of nowhere meant Summer vacation was 2 months of endless possibilities for mischief!!
There were barns, fields and woods to explore... beaches to visit & picnics to pack.
My cousins from the city always came & spent a few weeks with us, and it was
I really miss those days of run around barefoot without a care in the world...
why were we in such a hurry to grow up!?

My June "small" Sponsors are here today to share their favorite Summer memories too!
Be sure to stop by their blogs and shops and say "hi!"

"My favorite summer memory would have to be my wedding in August of 2005!  The day before I got married my parents, sister, best friend and I went to the lake and spent the day floating around on inner tubes and eating raspberry shakes!  Of course, the actual wedding was pretty good too :)"

"Every Tuesday night we'd have swim meets, and my sister and I would prep for them by watching movies all day, eating a big pasta dinner, and then going out and having fun at the pool with our friends that night!! Such amazing memories with friends doing that, year after year!"

"My favorite summer memory is camping. We used to go camping a lot when I was younger and I just loved it. It would usually involve fishing which was super fun! There is nothing better than the food cooked over a campfire and then roasting some s'mores! Loved it!!"

"Most of my favorite childhood summer memories are from spending summers in England as a child. My mom's family lives in England and we would spend 3 months there every year. I loved walking around the corner to the little store by myself and buying a piece of candy every day. I was completely enthralled with the double decker buses and would beg to ride them as often as possible. As an adult, my favorite summer memories are all about watching my kids explore and discover new things that they love to do. Watching them learn to swim, seeing the joy on their faces as they discover the yumminess of root beer sno-cones, laughing as my toddler chases the bubbles in the sky....that's what makes my heart full."

"Near the small town that I grew up in there is a campground/picnic area called Flatbed Creek. As a young girl, my parents would bring us there almost every weekend and many week nights for a barbecue. We had so much fun playing with friends, cooking over the fire, and wading in the creek. As we grew into teenagers, our parents let us ride our bikes the few kilometres out of town to go to Flatbed with friends. From playing on the campground playground as a girl, to secret kisses with a special guy as a teenager, most of my great summer memories happened there!"

"One of my favorite summer memories was the year I “decided to whatever I wanted” one summer, a few years before graduating college.  I found a job as a waitress/staff member at a Dude Ranch in Cody, Wyoming and it paid $300 a month, free room & board.   It was worth the crappy pay because I had the best summer ever.  I met people from all over the country, led horseback rides, went into ‘town’ and watched the nightly rodeo (cowboys!), two stepped and jitterbugged with them later at a popular watering hole called Cassies, and listened to Shania Twain all summer tellin’ those boys that they don’t impress me much.  That was a summer I’ll never forget."
