Much Love to Newtown, CT

I want to take a moment to reflect on what happened yesterday in Newtown, CT.

When I first heard the reports... I heard "1 child confirmed dead."
THAT was enough to break my heart.
I closed my eyes, as a pain shot through my chest, as I pictured that little life gone too soon and the family & friends that would have to grieve & mourn the loss of that tiny person.

When a co-worker informed me that there were dozens of children gone... I lost it.
I sat at my desk, a tear ran down my cheek and I just shook my head.
What a world we live in.
It's unacceptable.
The violence, the tragedy.
Our children SHOULD be safe at school.
They DESERVE that.

I held my kids ever closer than usual last night.
I happily invited them into our bed...
I was thankful to hear them bickering first thing this morning.
They are such a blessing.  I will never take them for granted.

My thoughts & prayers go out to the family, friends & community of Newtown.
I hope they do find a peace & a way to get through this.
I don't know if I could.

I will talk to my kids about this.  Memphis has already overheard a lot.
I think I'll start off with this...

Have you talked to your kids about it?!
How did it go, what did you say!?

I'll be participating on Tuesday:

On Tuesday, December 18th, there will be a blogger day of silence.
We will post the button and that's it.

Please try to not post anything else that day if possible.

We are also raising money that will go to an organization in the memory of this tragedy. The organization is called The Newtown Family Youth and Family Services. Here is the official description of the support service we are donating to:

"Newtown Youth and Family Services, Inc. is a licensed, non-profit, mental health clinic and youth services bureau dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest potential. NYFS provides programs, services, activities, counseling, support groups and education throughout the Greater Newtown area.

ANY DONATIONS MADE TO NEWTOWN YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE DONATED DIRECTLY TO THOSE EFFECTED BY THE SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SHOOTING."

Please visit THIS PAGE to make your donation.

We can't imagine how they must be feeling, especially this close to the holidays. We would love for you to spread the word on your own blog, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Let's make a difference and use blogging in a positive way. Thank you in advance for participating.

Love,

  1. We haven't mentioned it to our son because he's 4 and he doesn't really get it yet. We will be talking about safety steps from here on out.

It took everything I had to keep him in his room last night. I kept looking at him on the monitor!

  3. I am grateful right now that Reagan is only two and she can't even begin to comprehend the reality of it all.

I pray for all the families during this difficult time.
