Cuz Old People Are Awesome

Nobody can do for little children what grandparents do.  Grandparents sort of sprinkle stardust over the lives of little children.  ~Alex Haley
The first Sunday following labor day is...
Grandparents Day.
Did you know that!?
I'm actually pretty sad that it's not a more celebrated day, and I'm pretty disappointed that I've done nothing to prepare for it this year.  Bad me.

Afterall, grandparents totally rock.
As Ruby once said
"Mommy, did you know that old people are awesome!?"
ha! and not to say that all grandparents are "old" but she has a point.
Grandparents have been around... they know a thing or two.

I was lucky to have been close to my grandparents... my maternal grandmother was THE.BEST and we were especially close.
She was that lady that all the kids in town would call "Grama."
She had a cottage and we spent most of our summers there... eating candy, running around in our swimsuits all day and watching scary movies at night {not necessarily something all grandparents SHOULD do... but I definitely gained a love of horror films from her!}... sadly, she was taken from us nearly 11 years ago.  LONG before we had digital cameras, and I kick myself now that I didn't take more photos of her & I together back then.

I take photos all the time, but I realized this week that THIS is the last photo I got of my parents with Ruby & Memphis:

I can do better than this.

On this Grandparents Day 2012, I promise to take more photos of my kids with their grandparents.
They deserve to have these moments captured to look back on.
Afterall, I'm sad I don't have more of my with mine.

What are you doing to celebrate G DAY this year?
What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance.  They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life.  And, most importantly, cookies.  ~Rudolph Giuliani
It's one of nature's way that we often feel closer to distant generations than to the generation immediately preceding us.  ~Igor Stravinsky
