Dear Memphis

Hey little man!
I can't believe you started first grade yesterday?!

Your daddy & I still remember the day you were born like it was yesterday! I can't believe this day has come & gone already! Mommy's going to need a moment!

Last year was rough, I know...
But this year brings a whole new adventure and I have no doubt it'll be a great experience for you!
{you have a whole bunch of people behind you... I don't think you'll ever understand just how many people you have in your corner!}

Your brain is amazing & you have a cute little personality to boot!

You're a cool little dude.  No doubt.
Check out your new backpack!?

You are so proud that you are the only one in school with a shark backpack...
It wasn't cheap... BUT the look on your face when you walked into school with that bag on your back was worth every penny!! Priceless!

Your little sister is proud of you too!  You don't always get along, but I know for a fact you're one of her favorite people!

Here's just a little reminder of the stuff you like right now!

You're awesome!
Keep up the good work, buddy!!
And could you use that big brain of yours to figure out how to stop time!?

We love you so much!!
Thank you for always being you.

Thrifty Thursday Link Party

This link party was created to bring together all of you thrifty bloggers! So link up with your blog post showing your recent thrifted finds!
<div align="center"><a href="
" title="redrosevintage" target="_blank"><img src="" alt="redrosevintage" style="border:none;" /></a></div>

Funnily enough, my tagline states that I'm "thrifty" but I don't actually post much here about the treasures I DO find while thrifting!

I don't get to do it as much as I want, because I literally live in the middle of nowhere, but when I do... I almost never come back empty handed!

I bought the bike for Memphis at the beginning of LAST summer. $10. It was LIKE NEW!
We had just decided to buy him a new bike when I stumbled across this Lil' Lighting in the basement of a local church... the best "thrift spot" in town fo 'sho!

And I got this vintage "Growing Up With Barbie" poster online for a buck!
I can't remember where or how I stumbled across it, but I knew my baby girl would eventually love Barbies... and I was right!

Kool-Aid Hair Dye :: DIY ::

What do you do when your 4 year old wants purple hair?
You pull out a pack of kool-aid and give her a sweet ombre look, of course!

Ruby had her hair in 2 ponytails, so we kept them like this to do the "dyeing"...

What you need:

Heat Resistant Cup or Bowl
Paper Towels

{Use 1 cup of water per Kool-Aid pack}

We used 2 "grape" packs of Kool-Aid, brought it all to a boil and then transferred it to a tall travel mug.  I carefully dipped each ponytail into the mug and kept them in the mixture for 5 minutes.

The mixture is BOILING hot, so do not leave your child unattended EVER during the process.

When removing the ponytail from the cup, we used the paper towels to soak up the mixture until it wasn't dripping anymore.

We ended up with a pretty cute, subtle, ombre look that Ruby LOVES!
The look on her face was priceless!!

We're a bit rock 'n roll, so this look totally fits her personality!

I'm not sure how long the look will last, I imagine the color will fade substantially in the next few weeks... we may need to do a touch before ''school pics'' are taken!

Quotation Marks :: Monday Giveaway ::

Hello to all of Lena’s amazing followers
My name is Farrell, and I blog at Quotation Marks. I post a quote a day on my blog and I have followers ranging from bookworms to Beatles fans!

One of my favorite quotes with a picture of Emily wearing A Time for Everything scarf.

At my etsy shop, I’ve tried to create the perfect gifts.

I‘ll never forget the best present that I ever received.  I received it while I was on my honeymoon.  My husband, Erik, secretly planned everything and I didn’t know a thing about our trip; I didn’t know where we were going, what we were doing, or where we would stay.

After a long flight to California (we were going to Carmel!), Erik led me to a car rental garage and seemed really excited about the car that we would be driving for the week.

Without being able to stop it, a thought entered my head, I hope it’s a red Mustang convertible! But I quickly extinguished that thought, as there was NO way for Erik to know that that was the car of my dreams, and I didn’t want him to see any disappointment in my eyes when he showed me the car he had specially chosen for our honeymoon.

But can you believe it? Around the corner was waiting a red Mustang convertible. Erik tossed the keys to me with a huge grin.

“How did you know?!” I asked him.

“I heard you mention once” once! “that you’ve always wanted a red convertible, so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity!”

And that was the best present I ever received: the rental of a red convertible.  It had nothing to do with money.  It had everything to do with thoughtfulness.

I was so happy and overwhelmed.  A simple present had made me feel so loved.

This feeling of surprise, love, and happiness is exactly what I hope to recreate when I give a present.  Whether it is a sad occasion or a joyous one, I don’t want my gifts to have anything to do with a price tag. I want them to speak for me!  I have always been on the hunt for the perfect gift: personal, articulate, and beautiful.

Carrying Your Heart Script Scarf

After years of searching I decided to make it myself! The script scarves and baby blankets in my etsy shop are designed to say it all.  It is always the best when I make someone a scarf or baby blanket, and they open it and exclaim, “That’s exactly the quote I would pick out for myself!”

The Little Darling script scarf

I would like to offer you a chance to win a giveaway from my etsy shop!  The winner will be able to pick either a custom script scarf or a custom baby blanket.  Whether you give it away or keep it for yourself (I may or may not own 4 of my own scarves), I hope that you find Quotation Marks to be the source of your new favorite present!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Thank you, Farrell! Not a bad to start to the week, right?? I'd LOVE to grab a baby blanket for my new little niece... I think I'd probably end up with a Beatles or Elvis quote! ♥

Giveaway is open to everyone & ends this Thursday night at midnight!
Good luck!

I'm not loving my bob.
It's too safe. Missing a little oomph.

I have a hair appt in a couple of weeks for my color, and I think I'm going to chop it all off!
I've had short hard many times in my life, my favorite look was similar to the first pic above.  But THAT haircut cost a small fortune & was done by an amazing stylist in Montreal....

I'm in a small town, and I have a low hairline {apparently} so I think I'd probably end up walking away looking more like this...

How short should I go... shorter than the last pic?
Should I go as short as I can... start totally from scratch again?
Decision, decisions.

Pretty sure my mind is set to cut it all off... I always feel so "fresh" with a short new 'do!

Take a picture... it lasts longer

“What i like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
― Karl Lagerfeld

This is a "life lately" post.
I feel like I've spent so much time editing photos I shot of others, I haven't been using it on my own family as much. These are all from the past few days... Am I lucky or what? My kids are CRAZY cute. And I've been seeing rainbows everywhere... does that mean something?

Thankful Thursday :: a linky party ::

Every now & then, I need to remind myself of all the good things in my life.
Life isn't always easy in the Mom2MandR household.  Definitely far from perfect... but it's MY life and I wouldn't have it any other way.  All the little things really do "mean" something!

I am happy {thankful!} to be co-hosting Thankful Thursday this week with the lovely Jade of Constant Chatter.  I am taking this opportunity to reflect on what I am happy with lately...

Our health

Back-to-school online sales! {sure beats driving an hour for the same great deals!}

My local library.  I just finished reading "The Host"... it took me the whole 3 weeks, but I'm happy I stumbled upon it in the shelves the last time I was there!

Pre-made Lightroom Presets... that are FREE! {and cheap ones on Etsy!}  I'm just a beginner and it's so neat being able to grab a "look" I like without having to do all the dirty work!

Cookies & Mint ice cream

The weather!  We're finally getting the rain {and rainbows!} we've been waiting for all summer!

Funny kids!
{seriously, my kids are FREAKS!}

My new laptop! I don't have to hide in the basement to blog or edit photos anymore!

My sister ♥

The fact that my parents live on a farm in the country, and we love going there for a break!

Memphis' aide.  She picked him up and brought him fishing for the day.  BEST DAY EVER, he told me.
FYI - they're still on summer holidays... so this is definitely not something she had to do.  She did it because she knew it would him happy.  I love that woman!

What are you thankful for this week?

Fun Back-To-School Lunch Ideas

Like many parents with a kid heading back to school, I'm starting to panic.
The dreaded "school lunch" dilemna is upon us again!

Luckily, Memphis isn't an overly picky eater.  Our problem is he doesn't have a huge appetite during the day {side effects of the meds he takes}, but we still want him to get what he needs during the day...

So, let's make his lunches interesting!

What kid wouldn't get a kick out a lunch like this, right?
I'd really like to surprise Memphis with a really cool "first day of school" lunch this year!!

He loves fishing, so I'm thinking I might attempt the "Submarine" sandwich first!
