Rubies for Ruby

Last weekend was a BIG weekend here...
Ruby got her ears pierced!!

Originally, I had planned to wait until she was a bit older.
I had always envisioned a "girl's day" of shopping, lunch & ear piercing...
when she was old enough to really appreciate it.

But, last Friday, she walked into daycare and announced to everyone she was getting her ears pierced!
It was news to me!
I still have no idea why, since she had not mentioned anything to me about it.
I was taken a little aback.
But she was so freakin' excited. She was giving high-fives to the educators and hugging her friends.
It was the cutest thing...

I told her that we'd think about it, and if she was still wanting them on Sunday, I would bring her to get her ears pierced.
I told her it might hurt a little, and she knew we were going to have to clean her ears for at least 6 weeks afterwards.  For any other 4 yr old, this might have been enough to persuade them to wait a little longer.
But she was ready.

The staff was amazing!
The girls doing the piercing really took the time to explain everything to me, and to Ruby.
They really went out of their way to make her feel special!

Of course, she did let out a little squeal as they did the piercing... it was over in a second...
but it was nothing a lollipop couldn't fix!

She left with her new "ruby" earrings and an adorable little care package that included all the aftercare information, as well as some cute stickers for her too!
I was very impressed with the whole thing!

It was a great afternoon, and a memory I (we) will never forget!
I'm catching her often trying to look at them in mirrors or at her reflection... it's kinda cute.
She's so proud and considers herself a Big Girl now.
My baby is not a baby anymore.

  1. So cute! I will never forget when I got my ears pierced. It was slightly traumatizing. I'm kinda feeling a blog post about it coming soon!

  2. So, so sweet! Ruby and I are complete opposites. I never thought about getting my ears pierced, so I never got them done. Finally, one day during my first year of college, I was visiting a friend of mine and she was like, "Hey, you never got your ears pierced?" I realized I'd never thought about it, so we went right then and there to get the job done. Glad Ruby is getting hers early on so she can wear fabulous earrings much sooner! ;)

  10. Hahaha, I love it. She made a decision and let everyone know, excluding you. What a big girl! I can't believe she didn't cry.

  11. So she's learned the important lesson that announcing something to a group of people will often prompt it to get done. Awesome! :D

I got my ears pierced at about that time, but cried a LOT more. Good for her! There are some adorable little-girl earrings out there, and I hope she enjoys her new look. :)

  19. Aw, those are cute pictures! And the second post I've read recently about ear piercing. :) I got mine pierced when I was sixteen, but I hardly change my earrings so my daughters (4 and 2) haven't really noticed them much yet... at least we haven't had the question. Someday soon, I'm sure!
