Project Pink

Today I am linking up with The Artsy Girl Connection for Project Pink.
They are hoping to turn the blog world pink for a day to raise awareness for Breast Cancer!
Today I am dedicating my post to this wonderful cause!

I looooooove pink lips.
But I have yet to find the perfect shade for me! 'sigh'
I so wish I could rock one of these bold shades too!
Aren't they pretty!?

Will you link up and help out the cause?

Falling for New Friends

Hi everyone!
I'm participating in the Fall Followers Fest and I thought it would be a great opportunity to quickly re-introduce myself!

My name is Lena, I've been married for just over a year but have been with my sweetheart for nearly 15 years!  We met when I was 16, and 6 years ago we became a real family when our son, Memphis, was born.  Two years later, Ruby arrived and I am so happy that our beautiful family is complete!

For fun I blog {about my life, my kids, entertainment, fashion, photography...}, read, paint my nails, watch movies, play with my kids and window shop online {seriously, my Etsy cart is overflowing!}.

Without a doubt, my favorite thing about blogging has been meeting some fantastic ladies along the way!
I'm happy to be linking up and possible not only gaining followers, but new friends too!

Speaking of new friends, I'd love to introduce you to Lynette!
She's a new bloggy buddy I've made recently, and she's just darling!
Don't forget to stop by her blog, I'll be guest posting there today too! Spread the love, and happy Friday!
Take it away, Lynette!

Hello lovely readers of Mom2MemphisAndRuby!
I am very excited to be guest posting because it is my first one ever!
My name is Lynnette and I blog over at Enchanted Aria

My name can translate into a few different things (depending on the language) and my favorite by far is a french translation I found saying that my name means *little dancer* which is me in a nutshell (well maybe a few more things added in)

I love to dance and I definitely am little. I also am a lover of crafting and creating, music, blogging, and my high school sweetheart (check us out on the Dearest page of my blog!). I am new to blogging and am hoping I can one day be as followed as Lena! I am a freshman at Michigan State University (go green!) and am studying Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (yes you read that right).
Some, if not most, of you may be thinking why that major? Easy, I love science, always have and always will. One day I hope to be a forensic scientist. Along with that aspiration I do wish to get more into photography and learn to play more instruments.

I am an odd individual but embrace who I am. I struggle with insomnia along with other issues. But that has never stopped me. I am very forgetful and I strive to be where I am at today. Come check out my blog, learn more about me and see what I can do! You will be surprised by this biochemists creativity <3

Eff, Marry, Kill {Ryan Edition}

I could NOT pass up the chance to play along in this silly linky party... too funny!
These are the men I chose...

This is how it breaks down...

I chose to Eff Ryan Reynolds because he's super sexy and hilarious.  It would be *fun*... ;)
Ryan Gosling is Marry material for sure... who wouldn't want to wake up to his adorableness every day!?
Plus, he'd be totally serious when he needed to be!

And I chose to Kill or at the very least kick in the crotch Ryan Philippe,
because he's a bit of a baby-faced dirt bag, no?

Who did you pick?

small {wedding} style

The kids were in my cousin's wedding over the weekend, and they made me so proud!
They did such a good job!

It was a long day for them, but they managed to stay clean ALL day... that in itself is a small miracle!
Memphis was the ring bearer, and Ruby {along with my niece, Piper} was a flower girl...
They're old pros, I suppose... this time last year they were in our wedding!

Memphis wore the suit & sneakers he wore last year... with a crisp new white shirt & black tie
Ruby wore an adorable dress from LottieDaBaby & a cute cardigan from Gap

They really cut loose and had a great time at the reception afterwards... we stayed until 10:00 p.m., but they could have lasted a way longer!  Party animals!

cut loose!

I did it.
I went to see the new Footloose movie last night with my sister.
I'm always a bit unsure about remakes... especially the remakes of classics that are already perfection, right?
But a remake of Footloose really piqued my curiosity and when it started getting good reviews, I really wanted to see it...

... it didn't dissapoint!
It was a fun, hip, modern & cheeky version of the original!
I loved it!

The soundtrack rocked, the dancing was amazing and the cast was great!  Kenny Wormald's turn as "Ren McCormick" is just as adorable as the original Mr. Kevin Bacon's too!

I'd go see it again!  Will definitely be adding it to my collection once it's out on DVD!
Have you seen it?
Did you like as much as the original?
I think they rocked it!

However, I'm not as open about the Dirty Dancing remake... for some reason, that one should NOT be messed around with.  Am I right?  ;)

Tuesday Ten { Riddle Me This }

It's Tuesday, and that means it's time to link up with Nicole over at Miss Mommy for Tuesday Ten!

Since Memphis loves riddles, I'd thought I'd share a few here...
Good luck!

What is it that you can keep after giving it to someone else?

You answer me, although I never ask you questions. What am I?

If you have it, you want to share it.  If you share it, you don't have it.  What is it?

What goes up and never comes down?

The more there is, the less you see.

What goes around the world and stays in a corner?

Light as a feather, there is nothing in it; the strongest man can't hold it for much more than a minute.

What question can you never answer "yes" to?

What always runs but never walks, often murmurs, never talks, has a bed but never sleeps, has a mouth but never eats?

If you drop me I'm sure to crack but give me a smile and I'll always smile back

How many did you figure out!?
{answers are found at the end!}

                                                                                     Source: via Zealousy on Pinterest

10. Your word  9. A telephone  8. A secret  7. Your age  6. Darkness  5. A stamp
4. Breath  3. "Are you asleep?"  2. A river  1. A mirror

Tricky, eh?
I wouldn't have gotten any of them! haha!
Don't forget to head over and 'like' my link on Miss Mommy's page if you enjoyed today's post!

a TUTORIAL courtesy of Cat @ Stuff I Love

Eek! I'm photographing my cousin's wedding today and I'm beyond nervous!
Cat from Stuff I Love graciously offered to hang out on the blog today so I could focus on getting ready for the wedding!
Since I suck at being crafty, I'm happy to have someone on the blog that can give y'all a great tutorial!
Check it out...
and thanks again, Cat!

Take it away!

Hi all!
I'm thrilled to be with you today.
In our house, we've already begun looking forward to Christmas.
My kids are so into the holiday that we've been super busy making crafts to give all our relatives for gifts.  This is our latest, and the kids' most favorite.

Denim Pocket Note Holder

1) Cut the pocket(s) off an old pair of jeans, making sure to leave both layers intact.
2) Have your kids decorate the pockets with fabric paint/pens, bits of ribbon, buttons or any other accessories you come up with.
3) Sew or hot glue a bit of ribbon to the inside back of the pocket.
4) Fill with decorative scraps of paper and a nice pencil.

Note:  This can be done with almost any heavy-fabric pants pocket.

Attach a longer ribbon (making sure to fasten one end to the front inside and one end to the back inside) to make a little purse.
Sew velcro to the inside front and back to hold coins or coupons.
Decorate 6-10 pockets and sew or glue to a large sheet of wood/fabric or poster board to make an odds-and-ends sorter (great for craft spaces and kids' rooms).
Sew or glue decorated pockets to the front of a plain canvas bag to make a trendy carry-all.

and don't forget to enter my current giveaway... ends on Monday!
Good luck!

Book Club Friday

A few weeks ago I read this book

and I loved it!
It was the first book, in a while, that I couldn't put down.
{it actually took be forever to get through The Help!}

In 1977, pregnant Genevieve Russell disappeared. Twenty years later, her remains are discovered and Timothy Gleason is charged with murder. But there is no sign of the unborn child.
CeeCee Wilkes knows how Genevieve Russell died, because she was there. And she also knows what happened to the missing infant, because two decades ago she made the devastating choice to raise the baby as her own. Now Timothy Gleason is facing the death penalty, and she has another choice to make. Tell the truth, and destroy her family. Or let an innocent man die in order to protect a lifetime of lies…

Without giving too much away, I have to say that this book really made me think.
What "makes" a mother? It most definitely is not simply "genetics"...
And once you've created that bond with your baby, can it ever be broken?

The book has a few twists & turns...
It wasn't necessarily 'unpredictable' but I really enjoyed the ride.
It was different, and I was sorry when it ended.

The main character was a joy to "get to know."
A character that doesn't come along every day.
You definitely have to wonder what you would have done in her circumstance.

If you are looking for something to read, I highly recommend this book!
You will not be disappointed.

Flirting with Temptation Thursday: Piercing!

As mentioned a couple times this week... via my blog and Facebook, and quite possibly Twitter...
I'm itching to do something a little wild.

I'm thinking nose piercing... or a new tattoo.

The thing is, if I get a tattoo... it'll need to be tiny because I can't really afford or justify spending an obscene amount of money right now.  I don't know if a "tiny tattoo" would satisfy my 'craving' or just make it worse!?
Piercings are affordable, though.  ;)

Join me, and link up with Kori at Blonde Episodes
and let us know what you're flirting with this week!

Also, don't forget to check out Manda Jane's guest post and find out more about her & where she lives!

Guest Post: Manda Jane from Elf House Chronicles

Hi. I'm Amanda (or Manda Jane to some).
You can find me over at Elf House Chronicles. I'm so excited to be guest posting for Lena today! I thought I would share with you a little piece of the place I call home.

I'm a small town girl these days.
I grew up in Pittsburg (notice no H at the end), Texas. Population 4,347. I moved away for about 10 years (where I was trying my hand at being a big city girl) - and said I would never move home. Well, never say never. I've been back almost 4 years now! I live in my litte dream home I lovingly refer to as the 'Elf House' with my very own Prince Charming, 4 step-kiddos and 3 fur babies!

Small town living isn't so bad! As I worked on this piece for today, I realized that my little town actaully is pretty interesting! I'm going to share some hightlights of my Northeas Texas town with ya'll (yes, we really do say ya'll in Texas).

Everything you've heard about Texas high school football is true. You've seen Varsity Blues? It's not far from the truth. We are the mighty Pittsburg Pirates and we take our football seriously. We are not fair weather fans and we support our boys, win or lose! I only live a few blocks from the high school - so on football Friday nights I can hear the announcer, the crowd and the band all from my backyard (that's when I'm not actually at the game)!

I didn't really realize how many 'famous' things and people came from my little hometown until I started thinking about it. We make the world famous Pittsburg Hot Links here. They are so good that we've had President's request they be shipped to the White House. It's still a family run, 100 year old business (which I love), and you can find them in grocery stores across America. What is a hot link you ask? It is an all beef, hand tied link in natural casing! I can put down about 10 of them. Each person is different, but I eat mine with ketchup and hot sauce - mixed!

Pittsburg is also the home of Pilgrim's Pride Chicken, the 2nd largest chicken producer in the world. This is both a highlight and a sad note for our little town. Mr. Lonnie 'Bo' Pilgrim, who helped found the business in 1946 still resides in Pittsburg (even owns the bank my Dad works at), but the business sold out this last year. Sad because my little town and most of those around here relied heavily on this corporation for jobs and we've lost a lot of good people and family's who have had to move to find work. Mr. Pilgrim built this prayer tower years ago for the city and it's a beautiful place to visit. People use it for weddings, pictures, Day of Prayer celebrations and just a place to go and sit and medidate. It was a nice gift to our city!

I don't want to bore you too much with our little 'hick' town! But we are the home of Carroll Shelby - known for making mustangs for Ford. We are also the birthplace of Cavender Boots - but you may have to be from Texas to know about Cavenders. And we like to boast we flew an airplane well before the Wright Brothers. The Rev. Burell Cannon built an airplane based on a passage in the Book of Ezekiel and was said to have flown 15 feet in the air for a good 50 yards. However, the craft was destroyed on it's way to the 1904 St. Louis World Fair. A replica sits in our Depot Musuem!

Well, thanks for taking the time to learn a little more about my corner of the world. It's nice to live in a place where everyone still waves when you pass them on the street, men still tip their hats and people pull over for funeral processions. I won't lie,I do miss Whole Foods, good sushi restaurants and anything that stays open past 10 p.m.! But, it's home - and that's what truly matters!

Feel free to stop by and learn more about where I live, my beautiful family and all our many adventures at

You can find me at some of these other places:

Lots of Love...

Manda Jane

Manda Jane!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
I LOVED hearing all about where you're from!

I've always love the atmosphere of football towns in movies... must be so nice to be "in it" in real life!

If you're not already a friend of Manda Jane's, head on over now and check out her blog...
don't forget to say hi!
She recently had a design makeover on her blog and it looks great!

My Body

Why do I love my body?

Unfortunately there are numerous things I do NOT love abut my body... It ain't what it used to be, that's for sure.

I've birthed two babies.
Two beautiful people were made inside MY body.
My body kept them safe.
My body didn't let me down during labor either.
It's amazing.
I have a few stretch marks, but I'm not ashamed.
They are part of me now...
I got them for a pretty good reason!

My body also nourished my babies after they were born.
I am lucky to have nursed my babies for as long as they needed.
MY body produced milk for THEM.
I loved it.

I love my body most of all for this. It helped me become a mommy.

Also, after 15 years together, the hubs still thinks I'm sexy.
I love that he loves my body.
For better or worse, right?

Linking up with Two Eyes in the Mirror
What I Love About My Body

The only rule is to post about why you love your body!

A new sewing machine
A new outfit, head to toe, to wear to my cousin's wedding this weekend
A new TV
{we're still using our 27" JVC that we've had since we met... thing won't die!!}

Think I could rock a nose piercing?

Happy Wednesday!
