Wordless(ish) Wednesday... a big step!

With our ''baby'' on his first day of kindergarten...

He was so excited this morning... so ready for this next big step in his life.  :)
I'm doing... okay.
Finding it hard to concentrate on work and so ready to go pick him up and hear all about it...
Bittersweet day for me. I'm so proud of him... but I just wish I could hit the 'pause' button for a little while.
It's all going so fast!

School Lunches... ideas!?

Memphis starts school tomorrow!!
Whoa... this is really happening!  Yikes!

I ran to the grocery store today to pick up a few things for his lunch... and realized that I really had NO idea what I should be sending.
He's really not a picky eater, and he loves all the good stuff like veggies & fruit, etc... so it shouldn't be too hard to come up with some fun lunches for him... should it?

Well, I'm stumped.
Tomorrow he's getting a wrap, some fresh berries, veggies and some strawverry/yougurt flavored cookies...
It's a peanut-free school this year due to allergies, so I know that's something I'll have to keep in mind too.

What do you send with your kids for lunch?
Any favorite recipes, or cool ideas?
please share!!

I'm so new to this 'school' thing! lol

The daycare has been providing him such wonderful meals the last 5 years (seriously, I should post their menu, it's amazing!),  I want to offer him something just as yummy...

I'm sure he'll be working up quite the appetite, and I want him to be happy when he opens his little Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern lunch box every day!

Thanks for your input, ladies!  I can use all the help I can get!  :)

Bloggy Shout Out: Meet Natalie!

I've been following Natalie's blog, Blonde At Heart, for a while now, and I  just love it!
She's adorable, fashionable, funny & super sweet!
{seriously, check out her Awkward & Amazing posts... they're great!}

1. Why did you start blogging?  And what have you gained from it?

I started blogging in 2005 about a year after the Hubs and I got married and moved away from family. I blogged off and on as a way to try to stay connected with our friends and family. Since then my blog has changed a lot. I have grown as a story teller and have met some AMAZING bloggers! I love the blogging community and the friendships that I have gained through it. I am also super excited about meeting my first blogger friend in person this week!

2. Tell us something you're passionate about

I am passionate about God and clothes. Do those go together? Haha! God is such a huge part of my life, which is part of the reason that I love working with the high school youth group at our church. Its been so neat to work with these students and watch them love and serve God and others. And clothes, well that kinda is self explanatory, don't you think? I think clothes are beautiful and can help women feel as good as they truly are. Plus, I love a good deal!

3. Share a funny or embarrassing story about yourself

Hmmm. I thought this was sad at the time, but apparently everyone else I knew thought it was hysterical. I guess I will leave it up to you! :)
 I love squirrels. I think they are really cute and I get really excited when I see one. I was driving on a busy road headed over to pick up a friend when a squirrel decided 5pm was a fantastic time to try and cross the street. The squirrel ran in front of my car, made it to the next lane, saw a huge SUV and I guess figured it would fare better against my car instead. Unfortunately for it, it didn't. I saw the poor squirrel turn around and head back towards my car. I slammed on my breaks {yes, I break for squirrels and other small critters} and yelled. I thought I felt my car run over some little bump, but I wasn't sure. I looked in my rear-view mirror and there it was. Its fluffy little tail was sticking straight up in the air and its little body was curled in a ball. I knew it was dead. I cried a little, mourning its death. My friend said that it was in squirrel heaven, but I knew better. It was lying dead on a busy road in Oregon because I was a squirrel killer. I just knew that the other little squirrels were going to know what I did and start leaving us hate nuts on our door step. I am now keeping my eyes open for squirrel retaliation.

Haha... I'm sorry... but yes, that squirrel story is pretty funny!
I'm the same way, though!
I haven't ever hit a critter yet, so I'm not sure how I would react, but I'm sure I would probably swerve too!
Thanks so much for stopping by, Natalie!

How to Talk to Little Girls

Someone sent me a link to this article, after I tweeted this picture of Ruby on Twitter...

At first, I was happy to have received the link because I totally agree with the article.
{you must check it out... very interesting read!}
Our children, especially our daughters, need to know that "beauty" isn't everything.
Their mind and their hearts matter much more.

But then, I started wondering why this person singled me out as the one to send this link to...
and I have to admit, I was a bit peeved...

If you know us, you know that we are doing our best to raise our children to be confident, intelligent, thoughtful, inquisitive & unique human beings.
Of course, I think they are the cutest people I know and I love taking their pictures, and posting them on Facebook and Twitter for family & friends to see.
I'm a proud mama!
{aren't we all!?}

But I also read to them every night, encourage them to ask questions, bring them to the library, speak to them as if they are little "people," and tell them they can do anything they set their minds to.  They know to treat people with respect, embrace others individuality and love themselves, no matter what they look like!

I will tell my daughter she is beautiful.
No matter if she ends up being a size 2 or 12... if she's short or tall...
Because she is.
Even now, at the end of the day when her shaggy hair is full of knots, her face full of spaghetti sauce and her shirt covered in paint from the day's activities... I will still tell her she's beautiful.

She is also smart and really, really funny. She's a spunky little girl with a lot of energy and a wild imagination!
We make sure she knows we love everything about her.
She lights up when she figures out a puzzle on her own... or wins a round of Yahtzee... or kicks the ball further than her older brother.
We praise her for these accomplishments as well.

When she shows patience with her friends, we tell her we are proud!
When she shares her toys, or lends a hand, we tell her we are proud!

To us, she is {and will always be} our beautiful, smart, caring & hilarious... Ruby!

Let's all make sure our little ladies know exactly how special they each are!

The Graduate

Yesterday, my little man Memphis officially graduated from daycare.
He has attended the same great place his entire life!
Seriously, he was just shy of 10 months old when he started there.
{But it feels like it was yesterday!}

We actually pulled him out of daycare a month or so ago.
He was getting bored, and we wanted him to really enjoy the rest of his summer vacation.... so he was extra excited to go back yesterday and see all of his friends!

The day couldn't have been any better... the weather was perfect, the kids were happy & excited... it was just such a special moment for all the "graduates" and their parents.  I've seen most of these kids grow up too... they've all been in the same group as Memphis for nearly 5 years!  I remember all of them as babies!
Where did the time go!?

The party was a success... how could it not be when the emcee was a pirate!!
Memphis still believe this guy was the real deal!
He played the part perfectly... even the parents got a good laugh out of him!
There was also... bubbles and a... conga line!
These kids really know how to party!
We were treated to burgers & cake too... delish!
All the kids received a bag with special scrapbooks and photo albums, personalized, of their time at daycare!
Such a sweet, thoughtful and special memento to leave with!

Here are a few photos from our day...

and a video of Memphis & Ruby dancing with the Pirate... love it!

{would have loved to get a few more pics of me & my little guy... but I stupidly forgot to cancel my dentist appointment earlier in the day, and half my face was still frozen after having a cavity filled!  'sigh'}

Let's Converse

I currently own 2 pairs of Converse sneakers.  A pair of black hi-tops... and a grungy old pair of red ones.
I'll probably have them forever, even though since having kids my feet have grown and they're a little snug.
I refuse to part with them.
I want more.
I'm dying for a pair of white or beige ones.
So classic.
I also want a pair in navy, pink and gray.

{all via}

Are you a fan?  Do you love the sneakers as much as I do?
Do you, or would you, pair them with a more "put together" look... or only with jeans & a more casual look?

Small Style {Little Model Lady}

My friend Jen, who blogs over at Our Small Town Life, is a SAHM and has started her own little business... Cassabella Creations, was kind enough to ask ME to photograph some of the new items she's been working on for her shop...
I must say, she showed up with an adorable basket FULL of goodies!
The deal was, if Ruby would help "model" some of the stuff.. she'd get to keep a couple things...
Well, we didn't have to ask her twice!

Everything she's wearing (hair accessories, dresses & skirts)\ is from Cassabella Creations, except for the shirt which is from Small Beans

This was a lot of fun & something Ruby and I really enjoyed doing together!
Ruby was a big fan of all of Jen's pieces!
{She chose to keep the cute outfit in the top right corner!}

George is my favorite Beatle.

For reals.
I have always loved George Harrison.
The Beatles remind me of my dad... and in his younger years, my daddy sorta looked like George!
Had the hubs not suggested the name "Memphis" my first born son was going to be named Harrison.  Period.
Here Comes The Sun is one of my favorite songs ever.
So, yeah... no doubt I have always been on team George.

I saw this yesterday, and I'm so excited

Exclusive First Look: 'George Harrison: Living in the Material World'

"George Harrison: Living in the Material World" focuses the imaginative and inspired eye of one of cinema’s most preeminent filmmakers on one of the world’s most influential men.  The film takes viewers on the musical and spiritual voyage that was George Harrison’s life, much of it told in his own words.  The result is deeply moving and touches each viewer in unique and individual ways.
and because Pinterest rocks... a few awesome pics of my favorite Beatle...
