Just found ANOTHER way to waste time online...

I just discovered love it!
I've just started playing around with some of their retro/vintage effects, and it's so addictive!

What I'm Playing Thursday

Woke up with this in my head the other day...
no idea why since I haven't heard this or seen the movie in the past year or so!
But it's a good one... plus, I soooo wish I was BeyoncĂ© in this video... so funky cool!

Link up over at We're Just Like You, Only Prettier and let us know what you're playing today!

Inspiration Workshop {Bathroom}

Linky up with Gussy again...

Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop!

This a fun one!
Our prompt was "Bathroom"
We don't own our home yet... and we only have 1.5 bathrooms where we are.  Nobody except my hubby uses the one in the basement, so 3/4 us share the "main" one. Which is small.  I'd like for it to be fun for the kids to be in there... but not too "childish" either...

These are my inspirations...

Obviously, my bathroom would could not look exactly like that... but I love the simplicity of black & white of the pops of fun, bold color!

Keeping it "simple"
I could also just make buy a fun shower curtain, like this one:

and add a framed mirror, like this:

with some cute art, maybe?

A girl can dream...

Thriftin' on Thursday

Ladies, I have scored some AWESOME deals this week!

On Monday, the hubs and I went to Value Village since they had their 50% sale going on.
C'mon, the stuff is cheap to  begin with... how could I resist it being even cheaper!?
{I usually only get there maybe twice a year, but I like to make it worth the trip}
We got someone to watch the kids and away we went!  I figured it would be busy, and I sort of wanted to be able to "browse" at a more "leisurely" pace... the kids would have put a kink in that particular plan!  ;)
It was crazy busy, so it wasn't quite as leisurely as I'd hoped, but I still managed to walk away with some cute things!

For myself, I picked up...

a skirt
a dress
a pair of shorts {didn't realize until I got home that they were "Bitten" by Sarah Jessica Parker! sweet!}
a pair of pants
3 tops
3 pairs of earrings
1 necklace

For him, I picked up...

4 pairs of jeans
1 pair of black pants

Our grand total....

And then yesterday, on a whim, I decided to go through my closet... anything that I hadn't worn in the past 6 months was outta here!  Including a couple pairs of shoes that I've been having a hard time parting with...
So off I went to a local thrift shop, with 2 huge bags to donate.
I purposedly didn't bring any extra cash, BUT when I got there, I came across a couple shirts that I loved...
I only had about $4.73 in  my wallet.
And Memphis had picked up a few little toys.
I sheepishly asked the lady at the counter how much my 3 tops and his 3 toys would come up to...
pkeeping my fingers crossed that it would be less than $4.73, right?
Well, $4.10 later I was a very happy gal!

Oh, and it's Thursday... so the church basement is opened all day.
I think I'll be paying them a visit as well!

... It's Wednesday!
I love the fact that I'm on holidays and keep forgetting what day it is!
I thought today was Thursday, and thought I missed all the fun Wednesday linky parties... so stay tuned.
{More to come today, probably}
I'm up early again.  I don't think there's been a day yet that I've slept in past 8:00... but that's okay.
At least I don't have to go to work!  ;)
It's a bummer that my holidays are almost over. They've gone way too quickly.
The weather has been 50/50, and although we haven't done a milion gazillion things, I'm happy with it... I hope I can squeeze a bit more fun out of it before it's gone, though.
Enjoy your day!

Hubby's going to kill me...

I'm rearranging our bedroom... AGAIN!
But this time it's not ''for fun.''
My brother recently moved into a smaller place, and loaned us {ie. cheap storage} one of his TVs.
Unfortunately NOT a flat screen. It's huge.
And right now we have an old, tiny 13" TV in our bedroom... so, I'm thinking of moving the bigger TV into our room. Which means rearranging the bed & other furniture sinceI'll have to use the larger dresser as a "tv stand" for now...
It also means all the picture frames and art have to be rearranged... 'sigh'
BUT at least I won't have to squint anymore when I want to watch TV in bed, right?
I'm going to have to ask him to carry the beast upstairs, so he's going to find out sooner or later.
Me rearranging things all the time is probably one of his biggest pet peeves...

Man Candy Monday...

Yay!  It's Monday!  Hottie Day over at Join The Gossip.
Today I'm totally crushing on Cam Gigandet {how on earth is his last name pronounced!?!}

I only really ever knew him as James in the Twilight series... but in the past week or two I've seen him in Burlesque {HE made it watchable} and The Roomate {again, he was one of the better parts of the movie}

According to IMDb, he also portrayed Danny Romalotti Jr. in 2004 and was on The O.C. at some point too. Boy's been around... why I haven't I noticed him before??

Yummy!  And he's a daddy... "awwwww..."

The Simple Things

Love the idea of linking up with Rebecca over at Simple As That for her "The Simple Things" linky party.

There's nothing more fun that doing girly things with my daughter.
Like, painting Ruby's nails... or buying her a $0.99 necklace and earring set.  She felt so fancy!
She's terribly cute, and I'm so happy she's mine!

She truly is so easy to please... it's the simple things, afterall!

what we did when it rained

And it has rained A LOT around here in the past few days.  Other than being stuck inside, we haven't really been "affected" by it, but there has been major flooding and even parts of the highway have been washed out. Nuts.

In an attempt to ward off cabin fever... the kids and I got crafty!
Yep, I got my craft on!
That never happens!

Using stuff I already had lying around {which wasn't much}, I finally made myself a new necklace holder

I used an old frame that I had found in my mother-in-law's basement
It had already been painted purple. Perfect!
Next, I used thumbtacks to pin into place a 'backing.'  I grabbed the pile of art the kids brought home and cut out the size I needed.  I screwed in some small hooks... and I was done!  It was so easy
I think it turned out okay.  For having just  used what I had at hand, it's something I could have done a long time ago!  I was so sick of seeing my necklaces in boxes and just thrown on my dresser!

Then, the kids and I finally got around to opening the Alex Paper Bag Puppet kit they got for Christmas!
{I actually picked this up at a huge toy sale in November for $5, and I'm kicking myself for not picking up more than 1... it was such a big hit!}
We ran out of glue, so we had to use tape... but who cares!  They turned out great!  :)

We ended the day with a little... foot spa!
Cuz... why not?  ;)

So, that's what we did!  We made the best of it!

Today is, unfortunately, another rainy day. I'm thinking of bringing my little guy to see Cars 2.
Has anyone seen it yet?  Is it worth going?
Happy Weekend!

I've always loved the look of these braids...
and I'm happy that my hair is finally getting to a length where I can attempt these again.
I found this great tutorial on YouTube, and attempted it earlier this week...

 Whaddya think?

I need more practice, but I think it's such a cute look... or at least it will be once I master it!

Seriously Thursday?!

Seriously... It's raining again?  It rained all day yesterday and the kids drove me crazy!!  haha.

Seriously... I totally got my craft on yesterday.  I made a necklace holder for myself {post to come}, and some paper bag puppets for the kids.  Probably didn't think I had it in me, right?  Surprise!!

Seriously... we're on holidays, and even though I have to drag Ruby out of bed at 7:30 on normal days, today she was up at 5:30!

Seriously... she claimed it was because the cat was driving her bonkers!

Seriously... my sister got a blackberry and I'm totally jealous!  I've been eyeing the iPhones lately, though.  Maybe I'll pick one up in the next few months.  I haven't had a cell phone in years!  So embarrassing, eh?

Seriously... can't wait until pay day.  So totally broke.  Which makes a rainy day even worse cuz we're stuck at home!  :S

Seriously... didn't think this post would sound so whiny!  Sorry, but it felt good to get some of this off my chest!

Seriously... so true quote:

A couple weeks ago, I let you all know you could ask me anything.
This is what Jill wanted to know:

Maybe you've already talked about this and I just don't remember...but what was the inspiration behind your kids' names? They have such unique names, especially Memphis - love it! Just wondered if they were names you just liked, or if there was a special reason for choosing them :)
Great question!  I love, love, love talking about baby names.  I think it's one of most fun {and important} decision you get to make as a parent.

I always thought my first son's name would be Harrison. {yes, after George Harrison of The Beatles}
And I wanted to give him my grandfather's "real" last name as his middle name... Mitchell.
{my grandfather was adopted by his older sister & her husband and took their last name, Hill, so I wanted to bring Mitchell back}

However, when we found out we were expecting... maybe even a few months before that... hubby suggested "Memphis."  I loved it, but I wasn't sold.  So I went out and bought a few baby name books, scoured the pages and couldn't find anything that sounded as "right" as Memphis did.  So we decided on Memphis Mitchell. And I love it!

As for Ruby, it had been on our fave list FOREVER. I think we just assumed that this would be the name of our future daughter... but by the time it came to decide on a name, I think we both felt that it had been brought up so much that it kind of lost it's "zest."  So we came up with another list.  I had everything from Ramona, Madden, Josephine, Ivy to Winter, Vivian and Clementine.  I think we were 90% sure we were going with Ramona Jo. {after hubby's grandfather, Joseph}
But minutes after the gender ultrasound confirmed we were having a girl, we both looked at each other and said "Ruby Ramona." Ta-da!  Perfect!

The fact that the first & middle names start with the same letter wasn't "planned" but I like it.  I also love the fact that both of their names have a musical reference... Memphis is the birthplace of Rock n' Roll, and Ramona is after The Ramones.  Plus, there are a ton of songs with Memphis in them, as are there tons of songs about "Ruby."  We love singing them to our kids.

Their names fit them to a tee.  Pretty sure we gave them the greatest names. ;)
Please share your naming stories too!

Cute story, as soon as Memphis was born, this song started playing.  It was such a special moment!
