I can do it!

Follow a recipe, that is.  Who would of thought!?  ;)

I had a major craving for meatloaf last week, and JC usually makes it the yummiest... but he wasn't home.  I thought of pulling out his recipe, but decided to try one all on my own.  For those of you that know me well, you know that I cannot, and do not cook.  I stick to what I'm good at, which isn't much.

So I came across a recipe online that I decided to try. Seemed healthy and simple.  I had most of the ingredients already, so away I went.  Prep time was minimal, and it was a huge hit!  The kids liked it, and even though JC wasn't home for supper, he had some for a midnight snack and said it was "the bomb!"  Yay me!

Ta da!  I just need to work on my 'presentation' now!

When the kids are away

... I rearrange stuff!

My mother-in-law took the kids, so today I zoomed in on Memphis' room.

We don't own our home, but we rent a cozy 3 bedroom townhouse.  Hubby and I share the 'master' bedroom and each of the kids have their own room.  I'm happy that we can provide them each with their own space.  It's small, but at least it's all theirs!

We got a hand-me-down double bed for Ruby, so we've tried to make the best of it.  I moved her dresser to her closet and it all seems to work.  I'd like to get her a cute valance for the window and a new comforter at some point in the near future.  And the plan is to paint the head/foot boards PURPLE (her favorite color).  She loves her big girl bed and when I babysat my niece, Piper, last weekend I was able to put the girls in Ruby's room together... it was so cute.  Reminded me of the sleepovers I had with my cousins growing up.

She's so girly! This is a close up of one of her princess dresses

Some of her books (Disney Princess, of course)

Her My Little Pony box... so happy these never really went away!
Her first pair of heels

As for Memphis' room, we managed to squeeze in a bunk bed last year.  I always wanted a bunk bed growing up, and even if nobody actually uses the top bunk, it's a cool place the kids like to hang out sometimes.  I repositioned it today and put it in front of the window... I hate blocking the window, but it gives him more open space to play.  I think it looks okay, and alot of the time the curtains are drawn to make his room dark enough to watch movies (my kids have quite the VHS/DVD collection!).

I'm really excited for Memphis to come home tomorrow and see what I've done with his room.  I should have taken a "before" picture because it's actually quite a big change!

Mr. Mischief...?

Memphis: "Emily brought stickers for show & tell. She gave me a lady bug one and I stuck it to my hand"
Me: "Aw, that's nice"
Memphis: "But I lost it when I was in Mona's office."
Me: "Why were you in Mona's office...."
Memphis: "... Um, I'd rather not say."

Friday Fever

... baby fever that is!

I'm 99% sure that we're done having kids... But I'm in that 1% zone right now.  Lots of baby talk lately, and my brother-in-law's sister just had another boy last night, so it seems to be all around me!

The rational part of me is chanting ''we can't afford another baby'' ''where would we put another baby'' ''my sanity couldn't handle another baby''... but the feverish part of me is thinking about all the more cuddles I could be getting, all the cute baby laundry I could be doing, and a year off work for maternity leave wouldn't be too bad either!  Not to mention the fact that I've always loved the idea of a big family. 3 was always my ''number.'' I thought I would have one at 25, 27 & 29. That was the plan. Well, I started off on the right track.  I had Memphis a month before turning 26 and Ruby a month after I turned 28.  I'm 31 now... if we were crazy enough to try again I would be 32 (if I got pregnant right away) by the time the new baby arrived.

Take a deep breath.
I need to close my eyes and remember a few of the reasons I'm 99% sure we're done:
1) I truly feel like our family is complete
2) We were blessed with 2 healthy pregnancies and babies
3) I like sleeping through the night
4) Alot less poop to worry about
5) It's getting alot easier to get up and go somewhere
6) The kids are starting to be able to play so well together
7) Skinny jeans  ;)
8) Memphis is starting school in the Fall - I want that time to be all about HIM
9) I probably couldn't convince the hubby to go for it anyway... haha
10) I can get my baby fix through friends and family

Okay, I think I'm okay now.  I was just having a 'moment.'

Skinny Jeans

They've been around for awhile... but the idea of a pulling on a really tight pair of jeans was less than appealing.  However, I've definitely jumped on the 'skinny jean' bandwagon. The shopper in me is happy to say that I now own more a few pairs, including my newest purchase: ''jeggings'' - a hyrbid of jeans + leggings.  JEAN-IUS!
(haha, get it...''genius''... my attempt at Friday afternoon humor)

I'm struggling a bit with my weight and self-image these days.  I've never been one to primp and preen too much, I  like to look nice but I don't want to appear vain.  Thankfully I was blessed with very straight hair, so all I need to do is jump out of the shower, give it a quick blow-dry (with or without a brush) and off I go!  Makeup is usually pretty minimal - foundation, powder, blush and mascara.  The most important part of my beauty regime (if you can call it that) is a good outfit.  For me, a good outfit is something fun, something I'm not constantly tugging at (or pulling up), something that will garner at least 1 ''Hey, nice shirt/skirt/outfit!'' or a ''Cute boots/necklace/earrings!''

So, back to the jeggings.  I love them. Adore them. They are the comfiest thing I own (aside from pajamas, which I REFUSE to wear in public).  They're basically a very stretchy skinny jean. The pair I bought are from American Eagle. They have a zipper and button - unlike some of the more literal pairs I've seen that are more like a pair of leggings disguised as denim.  Today, I put them on, paired them with a cute new polka-dot cami, black sweater and boots... and off I went.

I don't think I've heard ''Nice outfit!" today... but I don't care. I feel GOOD.  I feel like I've maybe even been strutting a little.  Even though I'm heavier than I'd like to be (I'm sure I have a hint of muffin top going on),  I feel like a woman, and I feel kinda sexy in these jeans.

Don't we all deserve a pair of PANTS that make us feel good about ourselves?  I'm a mom of 2, I wear jeggings, and I like it.

Help Memphis save the Wolverine!

Memphis loves animals... and he loves watching TV.

He has seen ads for Earth Rangers and has been bugging (begging!) me to look it up on the computer.
He told me he wanted to help save the Jefferson Salamander (which I assume is the animal mentioned during the commercial)... until he found out the Wolverine was in trouble too.

He has chosen to take part in a fundraising campaign called Bring Back the Wild which helps kids protect and restore animal habitats across Canada.  He would love to raise $100 to help protect this animal.

Any & every donation is greatly appreciated!

Please help me help him help the wolverine.  ;)

30 Days in Pictures - The End

Day 26 - A picture of something that means a lot to you
I've known, and I know, the extreme love a mother has for her child(ren)... but nobody could have told me how much I would fall in love with my niece. My baby sister's firstborn.  She means the world to me!

Day 27 - A picture of yourself and a family member
With my grandparents, on my wedding day.

Day 28 - A picture of something you're afraid of
Ugh. I hate these things. Even 'Googling' for a pic of them made me a little week in the knees!

Day 29- A picture that can always make you smile
We just took this picture the other day, but man, was it hilarious!  He was such a good sport!  He's the best kid... so funny!  I'm sure he'll hate us for this one day, but for now, he's quite proud!

Day 30 - A picture of something you want to be when you grow up
A mommy.  Best job ever!

Ramblings...

I spent the entire day yesterday in my pj's, played Yahtzee with the kids, had leftover KFC for lunch and (almost) finished my ironing!  Although it sounds boring, it was the perfect 'last day of holidays.'

It was back to work for me and back to daycare for the kids today.  Memphis has been off since the week before Christmas because of that nasty ear infection he had before the holidays... I thought I'd have to drag him there kicking and screaming... BUT the morning went surprisingly well.  Both kids woke up on the right side of the bed (this is NOT usually the case), ate their breakfast, got dressed and brushed their teeth without much prodding from me.  I guess they were anxious to get back to their friends and their routine.  It felt good, and having a successful morning made the day more bearable.

Today is Day Twenty-Four of my ''30 Days of Pictures'' challenge and I am supposed to post a picture of something I wish I could change.  I'm not sure if that meant to be something I wish I could change about myself or just anything in general, so I'm going to go with something pretty obvious:

My weight!  I know that I'm not 'huge'... but I'm the heaviest I've ever been NOT pregnant.  I don't like the way it feels.  I don't want or need to lose a crazy amount of weight, but 20 lbs would be nice.  I plan on starting an exercise routine at home.  I'll continue to watch what I eat, and stay active.  I tend to get lazy in the Winter, so I definitely need to be proactive about this.  I will keep my blog updated with my progress... I might even share a 'before' picture! Eek!

I'm also going to cheat a bit and cross item #59 off my 101 List: Get Memphis a pet - A hamster.  I never mentioned anything of the hamster being real or alive... ;)
He received a Kung Zhu as a Christmas present from my Aunt... and my sister bought him a battle station.  But having just 1 'ninja hamster' would make for a pretty lame battle, so I picked him up a cute blue, black & mohawked one the last time I was out.

Seeing as we adopted a cat just before the holidays, I'm not entirely sure adding a real, live hamster to our brood right now (or anytime in the near future) would be a great idea.  This is as good as it gets.

30 Days in Pictures - Days Twenty-One & Twenty-Two

Day 21 - A picture of something you wish you could forget

Not to be lame, but I'm having a hard time thinking of anything I wish I could forget.  Of course I've had bad hair styles, and I'm sure there are more than a handful of outfits that I wish I hadn't worn... BUT they were "probably" cool at the time.
Actually there are some things I wish I could forget... and I wish I could forget them because they NEVER happened.  Take 9/11 for example.  I will remember THAT day for the rest of my life.
"No, no, no, no... this isn't happening" is all I could say as I watched the images unfold on TV.

This is an easy one... COOKING!

30 Days in Pictures - Day Twenty

Day 20 - A picture of somewhere you'd love to travel

I'd love to travel to Wales - my grandmother was born there, so it would be like going back to my roots and also, it just looks so beautiful!
