Their Art

I'm definitely one of those moms that keeps almost every.single.thing the kids make for me.
I have thrown a few things in the trash (gasp!), and I have gone through some of the older stuff and got rid of a few things (it's so hard to do!!)... but the kids made this the other day, and I just had to share it with you!
Actually, what happened, was Ruby made a really bad outline of her hand and was soooo proud!  Memphis thought it looked like an elephant, so he jumped on it and was trying to give it a "face" and then Ruby went back to make it more colorful.
They colored it on an old file folder...
and I LOVE it!
Seriously.
This one's going in a frame!
It's so abstract, and when I look at it, I remember how they worked on it together. Happily. No fighting.

Are you a "keeper" or are you very efficient in getting rid of unecessary "arts & crafts" the kids make and/or bring home?
I've seen fabulous ways of displaying their artwork... but my fave is the fridge.
It just seems "right"... even though the clutter of it can be a little overwhelming on a particular creative week!
I've also heard of taking photographs of their art, and getting rid of the 'originals.'
I think this is a great idea for 90% of the stuff they bring home, but I know there are a few things I will never, ever part with!

  1. I keep a lot of it. well most of it. After a while it ends up in a bin in the attic. My friend's mom kept a lot of her artwork, stories, certificates etc and put it in a scrapbook that she gave her on her 30th birthday.
Your kiddos created a nice elephant! Love that they did it together.

  2. My mom was not a "keeper" - she threw most of our stuff out, except for a few "choice" pieces. lol BUT my aunt kept two paintings my sister made for her when she was little (which remind me of your kids' project - so cute!!), and when my sister was pregnant for her first, my aunt had her "artwork" mounted and gifted it back to her to hang in the baby's nursery - I thought that was such a cool idea!!

  4. I'm a keeper LOL Throughout preschool I held onto the cute pieces and put it in a rubbermaid container labeled "preschool" with the years. I always put the date on the back of the artwork as well.

Then last year with Kindergarten I did the same thing.

First grade is tomorrow, so I now officially have a first grade tub ready to go!
