crack 'o dawn

There was NOTHING on TV last night, it was hot out (finally!) and I was super tired... so I went to bed early. At 9:00 p.m. (!!), fell asleep almost immediately and slept really well (soooooo well!).  The downside to going to bed so early is that I was wide awake at... wait for it... 4:30 a.m.!  Seriously!?
FYI - not actual representation of my laundry & dishes (my laundry looked a lot messier than that... but dishes & sink were much cleaner & neatly piled!)

I'm on my second cup of tea, second load of laundry and I already the dishes that I let pile up yesterday (I had a good excuse... it was hot in the house since Hubby didn't set up our A/C yet).  I might throw caution to the wind and even tackle a bit of my ironing pile, sweep  & put away some of the laundry.  Or not.  I'll probably procrastinate and putter around online until it's time to shower.

I can't ever seem to get in the shower before 7:00... even if it would mean I could get completely ready before the kids are even out of bed.  I enjoy the quiet time beforehand, and the 'rush' of everyone getting ready at once helps us to get out of here on time.  Hustle & bustle!

So here I am... waiting on some fun ''Something or Other Tuesday'' blogs to pop up that I can link to...

Did you check out yesterday's post about my cat?  Well, he has a name.  After much debate, we went back to one of our faves... Otis. I think the transition will be fairly smooth.  We've only had him a couple of weeks, and it's a cat who doesn't even respond to it's name, afterall... haha.

Check him out... all manly & snuggled up in a cute pink basket... ;)
And I'm very excited about my upcoming giveaway...

we've been DUPED... again!

We got an adorable little kitten a couple weeks back... remember?  The cutest orange fuzzball EVER, and we named her Clementine.  Fitting because she is orange and also because it's on the top of our favorite names list and was a top contender when I was pregnant, since we aren't planning on any more children, I really wanted a chance to use this name...

We've had a bit of bad luck with kittens over the past year.  We tried twice before, taking in strays, hoping they would blend in well with our family. It's important to us that our kids have a pet.  Silas (the first one we took in thinking it was a female) thought he was a panther or a puma or something and wasn't very friendly or happy to be stuck inside.  The second, whom we named Dallas and KNEW he was a male, was alot older and although affectionate, just to 'wild' for us.  Plus, he had a nasty habit of spraying that wouldn't necessariliy be fixed by being neutrered.  Both went to live at my parents farm (where they are VERY happey) and we swore that was it. No more cats.

Then a friend posted a pic of the kittens his cat had just had.  So cute, right.  We remained firm with out decision ''no, we're not getting another cat.''  But then another picture with a ''to giveaway, free, or will probably be put down'' caption.  What!?  I fell in love with that little kitten face a hundred times over and talked Hubby into bringing her home.

Lovely cat.  Just adorable.

Today was her first vet appointment for vaccinations.
Clementine is a HE!  Yes, we've been duped again.  I should have known better.  A few times, I looked at my hubby and asked ''are you sure it's not a boy...?'' I'm a country girl, afterall.  I should have been able to tell the difference.  To be fair, she he is quite little still (only 9 weeks old) and fluffy "down there" so it's an amateur mistake.  Oops!

I started typing this at work after I got "the call."  But my hubby is a great liar, and he tricks me with things like this all the time!  So before posting, I thought it best to come home and Google it.  I typed in Sexing kittens and landed on this very graphic informative site.
{no need to click on the link unless you REALLY want to know how to tell the difference!}
To be honest, even after reviewing all the info & pics online AND examining her his little parts, I'm still not entirely convinced.  :S

Luckily, she he is young enough that we'll be able to get him back to the vet by the time he's 6 months to be neutered... before his natural instincts to spray kick in (I hope!).

The only FUN part of this is coming up with a new name for our little man kitty.

I've playing around on Nymbler trying to find just the PERFECT one!
(any excuse to look up baby names, really!  I never tire of doing that!)
So far, I like:  August, Valentin, Maverick, Lincoln, Kingston, Rocco, Gideon, Wiley, Madden, Zeke, Cash...
Will have to run these by the rest of the family...

Memphis Monday: Training Wheels

Memphis has always been fairly cautious... so much so that his outlook on whether or not to take the training wheels off his bike was "But why? They keep me from falling. Duh."  True.  So true.  I think I was near 7 years old before my parents finally convinced me to take mine off, so I totally understood where my little dude was coming from.

However, a month or so ago, he wanted them off. He tried a handful of times {with us holding onto him} but he just couldn't get it and he gave up.  I wasn't going to press the issue.  The training wheels weren't going back on,  and I knew when he set his mind to it, he'd get it.  He's smart & stubborn.

Last week, hubby picked him up an hour or so early from daycare.  Between that time, and the time I got home... he had learned to ride his bike... sans training wheels!!  I was so proud!  I so wish I had a pic to post here, but he's been just so speedy on that thing, I have yet to catch a good glimpse of him with my camera!

He did rush out in a hurry one day and didn't put on his helmet.  tsk. tsk.  The road was a bit slick from the rain we'd had (all day), and he fell. Mind you, he wasn't going fast, but he whacked the side of his face pretty good and has a nasty bruise to show for it.  Of course, I'm sad that he hurt himself... BUT it did teach him a valuable lesson about wearing his helmet!  Not once did he leave this house this weekend without putting it on first.  And the little boy he was riding around with WASN'T even wearing one... but he told me that he knows now how important it is.  Lesson learned.

1st Friday Shoegasm!

Linking up with Terri over at Peace Love & Applesauce for her Friday's Shoegasm... sorry for yet ANOTHER Friday post, but I couldn't pass this one up.

I've been daydreaming on the Forever 21 website for days now... adding things to my cart, removing things, adding more things, pretending I'm actually going to 'check out.'
One item that has consistently remained in my cart are these lovelies...

Like, for reals... you MUST know how many outfits I could pair these with?!  "sigh"
If anyone is feeling generous, I take a size 9...

...i confess

I confess that I totally love the high-waist, flare-legged jeans I’m sporting today. Feels so good to not ‘need’ a belt or a looser top to hide the teeny-muffin top I get from most of the others pairs I own.

I confess I love the blue wedges I’m wearing today. Wish I would think of wearing them more often!

I confess I was actually planning on writing & posting this Friday Confessional while I went home for lunch… but I watched ‘Nurse Jackie’ instead and got back to work just.in.time. So, I’m doing it from work now. Bad me.

I confess I wish it would actually rain tonight. I’m pooped and a good excuse to skip soccer practice would be appreciated.

I confess I need new fuses for my stove. None of the elements are working anymore, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. I’ve had to be creative and think of meals that can be baked or warmed up in the microwave… ;)

I confess I was more than a tad annoyed with our new kitten this morning. She was looking to play at, like, 5 a.m.! Good thing she’s cute…

I confess I have a bit of a crush on Peter Facinelli since watching him on ‘Nurse Jackie.’

I confess I’m trying to see how many times I can reference ‘Nurse Jackie’ in this post before you catch on that I’m a bit obsessive when it comes to TV… ;)

I confess I’m on my 4th cup of coffee today. I won’t be able to sleep tonight.

I confess I hope I can reel in a few more followers… looking forward to hosting my first giveaway!

I confess… I’m so happy it’s Friday. For a short week, it sure felt LONG.

Anything you want to get off your chest...

Happy weekend!

Five Question Friday

1. Do you apologize to your kids?
Yes.  They're little people and if I've wronged them or done something that upset them, I will apologize.

2. What color are your nails right now?
I just did my nails the other night... Salley Hansen's Fruitti Petutie!  Funky pinky color, love it!  :)
Unfortunately just found out it's discontinued... :(

3. When you were growing up, how difficult was it for you to stay home from school sick? (As in, did you have to vomit or just say "I don't feel good".)
To be honest, I never enjoyed missing school.  I was a bit of a nerd.  I stayed home when I was obviously sick, and if I did 'fake it'... I would have just had to say I wasn't feeling well.  Since I didn't make a habit out of it, my mother would trust that I was really not feeling well... ;)

4. When is the last time you bought a new comforter for your bed?
We got a new bed in November... and I found a cute 'bed-in-a-bag' deal for 50% off!  Plus, it totally matched the wall color & curtains we already had in our room.  Perfection!

5. Favorite website(s)?
Sites I visit absolutely EVERYDAY:  Facebook, People.com, Etsy, Ebay, blogs I follow...

Things To Do {When It Rains}

Grrrrreat... another fantastic weekend forecast.
When are we going to get a break!?
(c'mon, Mother Nature, joke's OVER)
I know the rain is "good" for us... makes everything greener, blah, blah, blah.
But my kids really don't care how green the grass is.
They want OUT!

We'll watch movies, there will be story-telling, play-doh, puzzles, fort-making, maybe some puddle jumping if the rain lets up a bit.  I could bake a cake.  But else can you do to keep your kids entertained and happy when they're stuck inside all weekend?
Some cheap ideas to spice up our rainy day activities would be greatly appreciated!
What was your favorite thing to do, as a kid, when it rained?
I could sort through the suitcase of old Barbies I have hidden in my room... the kids have been bugging me to do that.  Even Memphis (he's so interested in things that remind him that his Mom was a kid once too).

I'm going to try to stay positive, though.  Saturday's forecast is only a 40% chance of isolated showers... there is a BBQ being held at the daycare that I really want to bring the kids to.
Free hot-dogs, bake sale, inflatable jumpy things for the kids...
(an FYI for any local mamas that need something to do between 10 & 1 on Sat.)
They're really looking forward to it.  I hope it doesn't get spoiled by the rain!

And because we all need a good laugh once in a while...
These still make me giggle every time I see them.
They're legit pics I found in one of hubby's old recipe books...

my cup

Sadly  Probably my favorite part of the Glee finale on Tuesday.  I think my expectations were a bit high.  Bummer.
But it's quite the catchy tune!
(sorry in advance if it gets stuck in your head, like, all.day.long.)

And if you saw the finale, you probably saw this:

Just thought I'd share, and do my part to spread the word to end the word

Seriously Thursday!?

Seriously... I've been posting all over Facebook looking for a used sewing machine, and according to the hubs... we have one!  Yep, it's buried in the basement.  On a shelf among other junk, apparently.

Seriously... I really want to learn how to make one of these fabric ruffled necklaces, and I'm hoping it will be an easy beginner DYI project.

Seriously... I totally skipped the American Idol finale, and I watched 3 episodes of Nurse Jackie instead!! Okay, I caught the last 10 minutes or so.  I've watched all season, so I had to see who won.

Seriously... Happy that Scotty ''Mad Magazine'' McCreery won over Lauren Alaina.  Don't be hating... they weren't my picks for the Top 2 either (James, Casey & Haley should have been the Final 3)... but what can you do!?

Seriously... back to Nurse Jackie.  Love it!  Borrowed it from our local library... and I have a few more episodes to watch before it's due back... tomorrow!

Seriously... Just a few more followers and I'll be hooking y'all up with a sweet giveaway!

Seriously... Had fun linking up (for the first time) with Becky,  From Mrs to Mama for Seriously Thursday!?

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly / Part I: The Mommy Stuff

Joni over at Six Cherries on Top had the idea to compile a list of 100 things all about her.
I like her idea of compiling several posts, breaking each one down to a specific category (this week she did her physical self).
Although I've done similar ones in the past, I'm jumping on this and, today, I'm going to try to find different ways to describe myself as a mother...

1. My kids don't have a "bedtime."  That sounds bad, I know.  But "quiet time" usually begins by 7:30.  I let them wind down from their day and snuggle with me until they fall asleep.  They won't be doing this forever, pretty soon my lap won't be big enough and they'll be too cool to cuddle with Mom... so I'll take it while I can!
2. I've wanted to be a mommy for as long as I can remember.

3. It was important for me to at least try to breasfeed my babies.  It wasn't easy at first...Memphis was a lazy nurser, my milk wasn't coming in, I was exhausted... but I got through it.  And I nursed him until he was nearly 18 months old {and I was newly pregnant for Ruby}.  Nursing Ruby was so much easier!  She was an efficient nurser and we lasted nearly 21 months.  That's 3 years of my life I spent breastfeeding my children.  I wouldn't have had it any other way.  Loved it.  I have NOTHING against mothers who choose not to breastfeed, or who couldn't do it... but I just want to say a big thanks to my boobies & my patience for allowing me the opportunity to nurse them for so long.

4. I'm really happy Ruby likes to dress up.  More often than not, she wears mini versions of stuff I would love to wear!

5. I can whisper or mouth the words "Olive Juice" to my son and he knows EXACTLY what I mean!

6. I paint Ruby's nails whenever she wants me to, because I know how much she loves it.

7. I don't spank, but I yell.  Raise my voice. Whatever you want to call it.  Seems like it's the only way they listen to me sometimes.  But I want to stop that.  Sometimes it comes too quickly, I think.

8. I often feel like a single mother because Hubby is away a lot.  He works late hours as a chef/kitchen manager, and is only off Monday & Tuesday... which means that the kids & I are usually gone to daycare/work.  We haven't been able to spend as much "family time" together as I'd like... so we've decided to work on that.  I'll keep you posted!

9. I would have another baby.... if Hubby really wanted another one.  But we're content with our family the way it is now.

10. I use reverse-psychology on them ALL THE TIME!

More about me in upcoming posts... if you decide on a GoodBadUgly list, let me know, I'd love to get to know you better!

p.s. Don't forget to spread the word... Finally Fifty Followers Giveaway is in the works!  So excited about this!  :)

We Want to Know {Wednesday}

It's that time again!
Linking up with Seriously Shawn, Impulsive Addict, Janette and Mamarazzi for WWTK :)

Seriously Shawn is asking the questions this week... here I go!

{1} What must you do before you go to bed at night?
Before heading to bed, I have to wash my face & use the bathroom... And as mentioned in a previous post, I usually chew gum {It helps me fall asleep}

{2} What is one thing you must snack on at the theater?
Without a doubt, POPCORN!  Mmmmm!

{3} Before going on vacation what must you do?
Make lists. Lots of lists!

{4} What is one thing you must do every day?

{5} Is there something you do that must be done in a particular order?
Making a sandwich.  Bread, meat, mustard, meat, bread.  Cannot have the mustard touching the bread. 'shudder'
That... and the way I sort through my inbox & settle in at my desk first thing in the morning.  I always open the programs I need in a particular order, check messages, emails, etc.

Lucky for me, I don't need a lot of time to ''recharge.''

Misc Monday

Linking up with Carissa over at lowercase letters for another Miscellany Monday!

Sara Rue got married this weekend, and I LOVE her dress!  I think it's cute, fun, different... just right!  And her shoes (and his tie!) were gorgeous!  I think I'd love a dress like this for my next wedding (haha! JUST KIDDING!)

In other news, sorry, maybe TMI, but I totally experienced a crappy first in my journey through motherhood... my littlest one threw up while we were waiting in line at the grocery store!  Talk about embarrassing!  Luckily, the store wasn't busy and there was nobody behind us, so I was able to place my empty in such a way that nobody else would be able to step in the little mess she made.  Yes, little.  Phew!  I can't even imagine how mortified I would have been if she had been even sicker.  They were super understanding and asked me to stop apologizing...  Easier said that done.  Worst part is that I was literally just a few minutes from home.  'sigh'  Just another adventure!

We don't have much planned for today.  Lucky me, a long weekend!
But we are hoping to get a few things done around the house like installing the a/cs & boring stuff like that before heading over to my sister's for supper.  Hubby has been working so much that we don't get out together much as family lately, so I'm really looking forward to it.  :)

Oh, and here's some fun Etsy news (I'm an Etsy addict!).  I had placed a custom order months ago for some cute handmade dresses for Ruby... unfortunately, I have yet to receive ANYTHING, so I contacted the seller and she did all she could to track the parcel down... but nothing.  Instead of her redoing the order, I accepted her offer of a total refund.  Okay, not so much fun... but, with my refund I was able to order a couple slips from  A Slip Shop .  I'm so excited to get these in the mail!  Perfect way to spice up the dresses & skirts I already have in my closet!  You can also 'like' this shop on Facebook!  Check it out!

That's it for now!  Happy Monday to all!

watermelon ♥

I'm definitely in the wrong profession.
I should be a watermelon farmer.
My kids would love me even more... ;)

They pretty much ate an entire watermelon for their afternoon snack yesterday.
I couldn't fill them up!

Zoo Trip {Day Two, Part II}

The rest of the day was super fun.  We saw elephants and hippos and more monkeys, flamingos (Ruby loved these since they were PINK!), grizzlies and cougars and snakes (LOTS of them!), birds and fish and lizards and turtles, zebras and polar bears and kangaroos!  The kids loved it!

2/3 kids stayed awake the entire time... this one napped for about half an hour!  She was exhausted, and for good reason... the kids did walk most of the day (even though we had rented a stroller).

And then it rained.  Luckily for us, not until the end of the day... and it didn't rain a lot.  Nothing an umbrella or rain coat couldn't handle!  We toughed it out and kept walking for another hour & a half.  It was fun!

And it was all for this little angel who turned 2 that day!
We love you, Piper!  Hope you had a great birthday!

There is it.  Our trip to the Zoo.
So happy I got to experience this day with my kids.
They summed it up best....
