Boy in a bunk

Getting Memphis to sleep in his own bed, and his own room, has been an ongoing struggle... however, we're hoping this will help the process:

What kid doesn't love a bunkbed, right?

Stay tuned...

Happy 2nd Birthday, Ruby!

My baby girl is officially 2 years old today. Wow.

She's just such a spunky girl, I don't know what we'd do without her!
We threw her a relatively small birthday party on Sunday. Just close family. She had been sick with a nasty cold all week, so she wasn't really up for much and was totally exhausted by the end of the party. But she was a trooper... she got through all her presents! ;)

Why I Love My Kids

It's been a pretty quiet morning here at work, and instead of surfing the web or chatting with co-workers, I thought I'd take a few minutes to jot down things I love about my kids...

Memphis - wow, where do I begin? I love the way he tells stories and asks a million questions about everything. It is so neat seeing the little wheels in his head turning. I love his dimples when he smiles and the way he tries to shake his bum when he dances. I love that he loves books. I love that he calls lasagna - 'beezogna' and says his full name when someone asks him what his name is. Lol. I love that he's super sweet and gentle with his newest little cousin and he understands that his Grama & Grampa are my mommy & daddy... he's so smart! And mostly I just love that he's mine!

Ruby - what a gem! I love that she is super spunky and independent... but still likes to cuddle with me. I love that her hair is long enough to put into 2 little pony tails now. I love that every time I say 'I love you' to her she replies with 'Love you too.' I love that she has a favorite dolly and brings it everywhere. I love that she imitates her older brother and wants to do everything he does. I love that she's my daughter and I love that I have a little girl... never knew it could be this much fun!

Dentures on my desk

I actually found TEETH on my desk when arriving to work this morning! I spotted them as I was coming in, but I couldn't really make out what they were... until I got closer. Yuck, yuck, yuck.

Turns out they belong to our cleaning guy. He came in shortly after we opened to pick them up. He was like ''I think I forgot something'' and I was like ''yeah, your teeth. The boss has them.'' Then he actually mumbled something about knowing he'd forget them here sooner or later...

Which makes me wonder.... how long as he been leaving his dentures on my desk!?!?
Not a fantastic start to my morning.

Goodbye 3yr old Memphis... Hello 4yr old Memphis!

Wow! I can't believe my baby boy is turning 4 tomorrow. I know everyone says it, but it feels like just yesterday that he came into our lives.

He continues to bring us soooo much happiness & laughter; he's an amazingly smart little boy full of questions and the world just wouldn't be the same without him.
We had a small celebration on Sunday, with family & friends and a shark-themed birthday cake that he just loved! He got tons of fun and interesting toys... and the best part is that he really loved everything he got. It was a great day!

Happy 4th Birthday Kiddo! We love ya!

What I had to google this morning...

"what to do if your baby eats dog poop"
No joke! I couldn't believe it, but Ruby actually 'sampled' some droppings left by my sister's little Pomeranian! It wasn't a huge chunk (sorry, if that seems too graphic), and it barely made it's way past her lips, but it was enough for her to start spitting and gagging a little bit. I washed her hands & mouth as best as I could, and gave her some juice to get the taste out of her mouth (I can only imagine how disgusting that must have been!).
From what I've gathered online, although not the best snack to offer your toddler, it's nothing to be worried about. Especially since I know that my sister's dog is healthy and is up-to-date with her vaccinations.
I'm sure Ruby will love hearing this story repeated when she's a teenager! ;)

On the road again...

Memphis that is!
This time he's off to Montreal with his Uncle Luc. Lucky kid!
Luc has been ''bugging'' us for a while to let him take Memphis on a vacation... being that he's only 3.5 years old, I told him that crossing the border without us would be out of the question... so he settled for a few days in the big city of MTL!
They left yesterday afternoon, and JC & were almost in tears... Memphis was like ''geez, goodbye already!'' Ha! Such a big boy. They hit a little snag about an hour out of Montreal when they stop at a rest place to let the dog have a run. Luc turned his back for second, and Memphis managed to fall off something and into a huge pile of mud! Welcome to our world, Uncle Luc! He undressed him and used a bottle of Evian water to clean him up as best he could. Wish I would have been there to see that!
We spoke to them this morning, and he's doing fine (much better than us!). They're planning a day of shopping and sightseeing today and are off to the BioDome tomorrow!
Although I miss him, I'm happy he's off having a little adventure!

Funny Memphis Story

This is one that I'm sure Memphis will not want me to share with his future girlfriends, but it's definitely one for the books!
After picking the kids up from daycare yesterday, JC made ''breakfast'' for supper:
Sausage, eggs, hash browns, etc.
As usual, Memphis was analyzing his plate and asked if the sausages were ''weiners.'' I said, ''yes, they look like hot-dog weiners, but they're called sausages.'' His reply: ''weiners are penises.''
I wasn't sure exactly what I should say, but decided to follow up with ''well, some people call their penis a weiner, but THESE are SAUSAGES.'' He just looked at his plate again and said ''yep, we're eating penises....''
Funny to us, but not funny if he starts telling people he ate ''penis'' for supper... 'sigh'

She peed! She peed!

Ruby has been semi-interested in Memphis' old potty, so we've been happy to let her "play" with it...
This morning, I let her run around bare-bummed after she woke up and sure enough, she started to pee on the floor. To my amusement, she stopped looked and me and pointed at the little dribble spot on the floor. I picked her up and put her on the potty and she peed in it! We were so excited, and she seemed so proud! She's only 17 months old, and by no means have we started the actual "potty-training" process, but we're off to a good start. :)

The Flu - PART II

Well, I definitely spoke too soon...
Not long after my last post, Ruby got sick with it... and 2 days later JC & I did too!
It was a horrible week to say the least, and I'm not convince any of us are totally 100% yet.
Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.
Here's hoping that we have seen the last of that nasty bug!

The Flu

Flu. Even the word makes me sick to my stomach.
This has been a horrible winter for the Laroche clan. At the beginning of January, JC, Ruby & I all came down with a bad case of the flu, I even ended up in the hospital hooked up to IVs. Just when everyone started to feel better... we welcomed a nasty cold into the home which took weeks for all of us to shake. Then Ruby had an ear infection... and lastly... Memphis got the flu over the weekend! It skipped him at the beginning of the year, but got him good this time around. Poor little guy was so sick... luckily (knock wood), the rest of us have been spared this last bout of it. Just got word from Daddy that Memphis is seemingly back to normal - running around the house in his undies singing songs and being silly. Phew!
Is this the end? Will Spring bring good health to us all? I sure hope so....

My name is Lena... and I'm a co-sleeper

Okay, okay... it's time to fess up. We're a family of co-sleepers! Yes, that's right, our kids don't sleep in their own beds. It's not something I'm necessarily "proud" of, and our bed certainly isn't big enough for the 4 of us, but it works. And our kids won't always sleep with us, right? So why not take advantage of the extra cuddles we get with them at night?

Our kids are happy and well-rested, and it made the first year of nursing them so much easier! No need to drag myself out of bed, into the nursery and then back to bed... I just rolled over, and they did the rest!

I read an article in this month's Today's Parent, and I was happy to see another family of "sleep-sharers" who are happy with their sleeping arrangement, as are we! That being said... someday, maybe soon, our kids will sleep in their own beds and we will finally be able to stretch out and nod off to la-la-land for hours & hours without worrying about being pushed off the bed or waking up with the smell of dirty diaper in our face... but I think I'll sorta miss it...
